Dear Parents,

At BIS we truly are global citizens working together!

Our International Week has been a tremendous success, uniting our community of 24 nationalities and learning more about different cultures and global issues.  The International flag parade on Monday opened with our host nation of proud Vietnamese students and staff singing the national anthem. The splash of colour as other children paraded on the catwalk, following their country flag and dressed in their national costumes, was a joy to behold. Learning facts about countries which many of our children have not visited before such as Bulgaria, Poland, Kazakhstan, Algeria, Kuwait, Algeria, Russia and France was a trend which followed throughout the week. We are so lucky to be able to find out first-hand, from our own parents and students!

The week has culminated in a fabulous array of international food, games and debate! Today, it was my pleasure to join students in Year 7, 8 and 9 as they were allocated countries to research in teams. A fact finding mission, where they established strengths and weaknesses in terms of economic position and factors effecting climate change, followed. Students then prepared to negotiate with other countries and make trade deals. From the resulting presentations at the end of the day, it was plain to see that we really have future world leaders amongst our community!

Congratulations to all members of staff – you have really helped us all to excel as a community of learners this week. A huge thank you also to our fantastic parents who have brought learning alive and for providing the delicious international buffet.

I look forward to seeing you at the international fair tomorrow.

Ms Sue Hill, Principal
