Dear Parents,

Today, I had the pleasure of attending all three school assemblies. In the Secondary assembly, I was proud to see children from Mrs. Smith’s class, 4B, making an impassioned plea to secondary students to help them with their mission. Year 4 have been monitoring food waste and have noticed that there is too much waste in both the primary and secondary canteens; students are taking too big a portion and not eating it all. Posters, which have been made by our newly formed Waste Warriors, will be placed in both canteens to remind us all of our part in helping achieve the Global Goal of reducing waste and eradicating world hunger. The Waste Warriors have also been looking at ways of recycling waste in our school composting bins which are producing nutrients needed to grow healthy produce in our organic BIS garden. Great work, Waste Warriors – you have certainly had a voice today and are actively making a difference!

In the EYC assembly, our youngest members of BIS helped Ms. Karissa to show the importance of asking good questions. F1 were fearless in front of the EYC audience. I must also congratulate Lucas from Year 1, our youngest Science Week prize winner who collected his award during the assembly.

Finally, we were treated to an amazing assembly from 6B who wrote scripts and worked incredibly hard, in teams, to produce an informative and interesting presentation on the history and mechanics of flight. Year 6 showed such confidence in their delivery and certainly had the attention of the audience.

Many classes are out and about next week, taking their learning outside the classroom however we have two very exciting trips I would like to mention: the Year 4, two day residential trip to Ba Vi and the Year 5 trip to Cuc Phuong which is for three days. I am looking forward to hearing about their adventures and will be sending regular emails to update parents on the fun events as they unravel.

Term 2 will finish on Friday 31st March with a whole school assembly for the presentation of the Principal’s Awards.
