Congratulations to Ms Hill and Mr Rowlands

A former British prime minister said that, “a day is a long time in politics.” A single week in the life of a school is packed with incident, too. We have not had time to come to terms with Mr Rowlands’ announcement but I am sure you will join with us in wishing him and Mrs Rowlands good fortune and success in Ho Chi Minh city. We are delighted that Ms Hill will be taking over his position in August. The secondary section already works closely with Ms Hill and our excellent relationship with her will ensure that you and your children will continue to enjoy the outstanding education that Mr Rowlands has brought to Hanoi.

A spectacular entrance hall

I hope that parents have had chance to visit the entrance hall, this week. If you have, you will have seen displayed the extraordinary art work of our A level and IGCSE students. I have spoken to a few parents and the overwhelming verdict has been this, simply incredible! Mr Harrison and Ms Tilt have brought out the very best from the students and I am confident that the students will be rewarded with some impressive examination grades.

CIS/WASC Accreditation

We will be host to some important guests, next week. Representatives from the Council of International Schools and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges will be completing a two year accreditation process between Sunday 23 and Friday 28 April. The whole school community has been involved in driving the school to its current standard and we look forward to confirmation of our quality from the external team. The team are interested in what we do and why we do it. They will meet with teacher students, parents and admin team members to learn how our school works together to help your children be the best that they can be.

International Mindedness

One of the areas the accreditation team will be interested in is how our students demonstrate international mindedness as global citizens. Today’s assembly was typical of how this manifests itself every week at British International School Hanoi. The students reported on three areas of service work in which they have been involved. Students from Year 10 and Year 12 reported the outcomes of their service trip to Tanzania, explaining how they had helped build on the work of other Nord Anglia students. This ongoing project provides sustained support to a community that is less fortunate than our own. Closer to home, similar community services were provided by the remainder of our IB students to a village in Mai Chau. Finally, members of the school council introduced the ways in which students could support the victims of the Syrian conflict. International mindedness is so often about empathy, understanding and compassion. Our students possess these qualities in abundance.
