The school's first ever Teach Your Parents evening

A big thank you to all the students, teachers and parents who supported the school's first ever Teach Your Parents evening. We had a fantastic turnout and it was wonderful to see the students engaging so positively with their own parents and other members of the school community.

After selecting the subjects they wished to represent the students went about deciding on the outcomes of their lesson, and the ways in which they were going to promote learning in their classrooms. Helped by their subject specialists they created powerpoints, videos, activities, games and quizzes - all designed to give a snapshot of the things they had been learning throughout the year.

The event gave students a great sense of responsibility and independence and an even greater understanding of what it takes to be a teacher. Many of the students told me just how tired they were after spending 2 hours standing at the front of their classroom! The event also enabled parents to see first hand what it is like to be a Year 8 student and the exciting things that go on in our classrooms on a daily basis.

I am very proud of the maturity the students demonstrated throughout both the planning and the delivery of the event. It was a great success and I look forward to our Year 7’s being able to share the same experience with their parents next year.
