Amazing opportunities for our BIS students On Wednesday, we waved goodbye to a team of 24 primary students as they started their journey to the FOBISIA Games in Kuala Lumpur. This is the first time we have sent a team for the Under 11s and they will be against some stiff opposition from the following British International schools: KTJ, the host school; The ABC International School in Ho Chi Minh City; The British School, Beijing and Garden International School Rayong, Thailand.

On Wednesday, we waved goodbye to a team of 24 primary students as they started their journey to the FOBISIA Games in Kuala Lumpur. This is the first time we have sent a team for the Under 11s and they will be against some stiff opposition from the following British International schools: KTJ, the host school; The ABC International School in Ho Chi Minh City; The British School, Beijing and Garden International School Rayong, Thailand.

Yesterday, our global competitors had a sightseeing day around the city before attending the grand opening of the annual games. Today, the competition started in earnest and we look forward to hearing about achievements in swimming and athletics. Competitors will also take part in T-ball and football over the weekend which leads to a gala dinner in the hotel on Sunday. Our team is due back on Monday afternoon. They have been in training for months in preparation and I’m sure they will be fantastic ambassadors for the BIS. Further updates from the team can be accessed on our BIS website.

What was the greatest invention?
Ms. Elliott’s class, 4S, were amazing this week! Our very own talented children held a talent show for inventors, with guest speakers including the inventors of Pampers disposable nappies, windscreen wipers, the flying machine, motor car and iPads to name but a few. The interviewing panel comprising of our very own Mr. Wild, Ms. Watts and Mr. Adams as we had never seen them before, questioned the inventors one by one then handed over to the audience to decide which the most important invention was. Believe-it-or-not, the inventor of the candy floss machine was the winner! I’m not sure about this decision BIS. Well done, Year 4 – you really entertained us whilst teaching us many historic facts.

Juilliard Guest
Benjamin Moermond, who trained at Juilliard School in New York, was our visitor yesterday. His instrument, the bassoon, is not one that we are too familiar with at British International School Hanoi so it was a real treat to hear a very talented musician play. I know that both the children in the EYC and Year 4 really benefitted from Mr. Moermond’s lesson and maybe it will inspire some of our musicians to learn the bassoon.

Science Workshop for Parents
Thank you to all the parents who attended the hands-on science workshop today which was led by Ms. Watts. The presentation will be sent to all parents from the Primary Office but if you have any further questions then please contact either Ms. Watts or me.
