Dear Parents

A Literature Legacy

There was a real buzz about BIS Hanoi this week. Ms Wilson, our Head of English, has led a brilliant book week. She was determined to run events that would not only celebrate the world of books but lead to further reading in the weeks and months to come. Students have been given a taste of a broad range of literature via the teachers’ anthology, which featured inspiring extracts from world literature. Senses were further tantalised by the “blind date with a book” reading exercise- ask your kids about it! We even had reading doctors listening to the troubles of children, who have stopped reading, and prescribing books to heal their reluctant reading habits.

Energetic ECA Time

The children bursted out of the school doors on Monday at 3:05 pm and launched themselves into this term’s ECA programme. We have more activities offered than ever before with something for everyone to enjoy. For instance, we had the auditions for the school production- Beauty and the Beast; exciting Volleyball matches against Hanoi International School; our largest ever orchestra; a thriving Model United Nations Club and some amazing community projects. You can read more about this final item in Ms Hill’s hub piece, this week.

Dedicated BIS Hanoi Athletes

We have been able to offer greater variety, within our 2017 ECA program, because we have extended ECA time for our elite BIS Hanoi athletes. Selected students now have the opportunity to train as a squad beyond 4:05 pm. The extra 60 minutes of training is used for intense, sport specific skill development. The student athletes are enjoying this additional training and I thank our dedicated PE team for leading this initiative.

A Strong International Presence at BIS Hanoi

We have welcomed over 30 universities to the school, this week.  Face to face contact with admissions tutors is very valuable in the quest to find the right university.  We have hosted some big name US universities including Kansas, Houston and the New York Film School.  These schools are leaders in their field and have a huge international student intake.  Again, if your child is in Year 11, Year 12 or Year 13, ask them what they have learned from this week’s North American universities.

Key Stage 3 Questionnaire

Thank you to parents of children in Year 6, 7, 8 and 9, who have already completed the curriculum questionnaire that we sent out to parents on Tuesday 26 September. If you have children in these year groups, please can I ask you to complete the questionnaire for us.  Your feedback is really important in helping us to provide the most appropriate educational offer for your children.
