Meet Ms Alice and Ms Eileen

We have met almost all our new staff but there are a few still to introduce properly.

This week Ms Alice and Ms Eileen share some of their experiences on arrival and for Ms Eileen, rearrival to Vietnam.

Alice RAGOUZARIDIS

A chat with Ms Alice, MFL Teacher

How long have you worked at the school?

For almost 2 months

What is your favourite time of the year at BIS?

I am really excited for International Week, as an MFL teacher I think that it is great that the school celebrates all the different nationalities and cultures that make up the school. I have also heard the food is amazing!

If you had to describe BIS in 3 words what would they be?

Buzzing, vibrant, happy

Why do love/like working at the school?

I am lucky enough to get to teach all the children from F3 up to year 6 across both AP1 and TX campuses. In a day I can be teaching year 1 and jumping around to a song to year 6 who will be writing their own rap about verbs. Each day is varied and the children are always excited to learn something new.

How would you describe life in Vietnam to friends back home?

Every day is different! I can be walking to school in blissful sunshine and intense heat and then wading up to my knees in rainwater back home. The people are friendly, children say hello to you in the street, people string their hammocks up in the middle of the pavement, and sell petrol to people from plastic bottles. There are so many motorbikes and they can come from any direction even joining me on the pavement sometimes. They can carry huge loads such as wardrobes, a whole family, or many toilet rolls. The food is amazing- noodles, BBQ, Pho, etc but sometimes the smells can be overwhelming making you want to run quickly away from the area. I have visited some other places in Vietnam and they are equally as intriguing. Bottom line is you have to visit Vietnam for yourself!

A chat with Ms Eileen, Year 4

How long have you worked at the school?

I worked at AP1 in Year 6 for 4 years and then took a year out. I returned to teach Year 4 in August this year.

What is your favourite time of the year at BIS?

I love the Vietnamese festivals: Moon Festival and TET.

If you had to describe BIS in 3 words what would they be?

Fun, challenging, inspirational.

Why do love/like working at the school?

The staff are so committed to doing their very best for the children.

How would you describe life in Vietnam to friends back home?

The word that always springs to mind is ‘vibrant’ – and energetic. It’s a country that is changing very quickly and it is exciting to be here.
