Meet our New Teachers For the next few weeks we will be introducing our new staff and asking them some questions about how they have settled into BIS and Vietnam. Moving countries as many of us know is not an easy thing to do, to up root from family and friends, to leave all you know that is safe and secure can be daunting for some but we are delighted that our new staff this year have take the risk and have joined us here at AP1.

For the next few weeks we will be introducing our new staff and asking them some questions about how they have settled into BIS and Vietnam.

To start us off, let me introduce Naomi Skinner who teaches in Year 3 and Chris Rolls who is one of our EAL teachers.  We asked them some questions about their move to Vietnam.

Pick the first 3 words you think of when I say Vietnam

Friendly, busy, sweaty

 What are your first impressions of BIS?

My first impression of BIS is that it is such a happy and friendly place, I love that children from all across the school say hello to me in the corridors.  I really like the variety of clubs at BIS and am super excited to start climbing club.

What new experience have you had since you arrived in Vietnam?

Since arriving in Vietnam I have ridden on the back of a motorbike for the first time and eaten some amazing street food!

 If you were writing a postcard to friends back home, what would it say?

Dear friends,

You just have to come to Vietnam, you would love it!  The city is bustling and full of wonderful food, markets and beautiful buildings, although crossing the road to get to them is a whole other adventure! 

So far I have visited the Pink Church and the Jade Pagoda, these buildings are stunning, nothing like I’ve ever seen in the UK before.  I went on a boat trip to the Cu Chi tunnels and squeezed into some tight spaces, did you know whole families and villages lived in these tunnels!?  This weekend I went to the beach, it was nice to have the sand between my toes again.

Pick the first 3 words you think of when I say Vietnam

Motorbikes, sunshine, pho.

What are your first impressions of BIS?

The diversity of people learning together. The wonderful community spirit. The focus on helping everyone (students and teachers) to be the best person they can be.

What new experience have you had since you arrived in Vietnam?

Tasting delicious new food  like banh xeo and bun thit nuong. Shopping in Ben Thanh market. Trying to cross the road safely!

If you were writing a postcard to friends back home, what would it say?

Come to Vietnam! It has friendly people, delicious food , beautiful landscapes and a lot more sunshine than the UK!
