It is always a pleasure to have walk around the AP1 campus.
If I peek in a window, I generally have to search for the teacher; they are not missing, just hidden under children, tucked behind a table, sitting cross legged in a group or on the carpet with the class. They are where the children need them to be. The learning is dictated by the children’s needs and guided by the teacher.
Children learn is so many different ways and our teachers adapt, change and plan lessons to cater for the needs of all these learners. Practical lessons are key with children being able to manipulate equipment, use video and IT technologies and move around the room. In MPF and MP1 the children use equipment such as Numicon in Maths (ask your child!). In Year 3 they have created the world using plasticine. In Year 5, they recently experienced what it was like to be an astronaut in space by doing practical activities in the pool and field.
This may be different to what we remember of our school days but I can guarantee our children will remember these learning experiences and not only that but how it made them feel. Cooperation, collaboration, questioning and investigating is our aim. We are guiding our students to develop the skills they will need and use throughout their lives ... and having a lot fun along the way too!
