British International School HCMC's Primary and Secondary libraries are very excited to be launching our new eBook library to students from Monday 28th November 2016.

Students will be able to download the Destiny Discover App and log in to the library system using their school user name and password. Students are able to gain access to over 500 eBooks, across a range of fiction and non-fiction titles. Books may be downloaded to laptops, phones, kindles, nooks, iPads, tablets etc.

The major benefits to students will be:
  • Up to five eBooks at a time are now available to be borrowed and returned 365 days a year, including over school holidays. Students simply log into their library account and can either read the book online or download it to their device and read it offline.  eBooks are automatically returned to the library after a two week period and can be re-borrowed if necessary. There are limited copies of some books available, other books have unlimited copies.

  • For students using eBooks for reference purposes a particularly useful feature is that any notes or tags they place on the book remain with it, even if it is returned to the library and borrowed again at a later date. The student’s notes remain with the book, visible only to the student, for the entire time they are enrolled at BIS.
  • Referencing for essays is really easy. Students can choose the APA referencing style, which BIS HCMC uses, and simply copy and paste the reference into their essay.
  • Reluctant readers may find that reading a book online opens up new reading opportunities.

The Secondary books cover a range of reading levels from International Baccalaureate (IB) and college level texts to books containing subject matter suitable for Year 7 upwards. Some books have simpler language to cater for EAL readers.

The system keeps a record of which books have been borrowed and students are able to place a hold on up to two eBooks so as to access them when they are returned to the e-library. Loans of both eBooks and paper copies of books are recorded.

At Secondary our Student Library Leaders are very excited to be introducing the eBooks to students and have come up with a selection of great ideas to promote the new e-library to students.

All of our library staff have been fully trained onto the new system and are looking forward to the launch on Monday.
