Parents’ Corner – 2/12/16

TX parents were quite busy again this week, but they also took the time to enjoy a lunch together to celebrate three birthdays, two farewells and a baby. From selling tickets for the BISzaar raffle to singing, you can have a look at their week. And don't forget, everyone is more than welcome to join the Parent Group activities.

The Whole School Coffee Morning

Last Friday 25th November, BIS Community hosted the “Whole School Coffee Morning” in order to raise funds for Thuy’s Dreams.  To know more about Thuy's dreams, please watch this video from BIS community service: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Nlm4uBJR2U).

Quoting Ms Clover, “an amazing, 66,519,000VND was raised. This money will go directly into supporting these families and children in need.”  Please read what Ms Clover, alongside APP and APS PTG reps, have to say about the event here:

PTG Coffee and Cake Morning

You’ll also read there feedback from our TX PTG, which I wrote on behalf of the parent group.

On a personal note I would like to say that I’m always impressed by the generosity and the spirit of TX families. Many of you have full time jobs, but you always find a way to help and participate.

Tuan Manh and Duyen have also something to share with you regarding the event;

“It was incredible to be a part of the charity event at BIS to raise funds for Vietnamese children suffering from cancer. Thanks to all BIS teachers, parents and students for the fantastic organisation and the warm welcome with flowers, cakes, banners and a fantastic piano stage setup. How wonderful for me to see teachers, parents and students at the school take great care for children suffering from cancer who are unlucky in life. Do a little thing with a big heart to spread our love to the next generation and to the world." Tuan Manh

"My heart was feeling so warm as we received big smiles from teachers and parents of the three campuses participating in this meaningful event. It was my honour to be part of it. It was the first time for me to have such a warm and lovely coffee morning! Wishing the support for children suffering will continue to grow from the seed of sustainable love”.  Duyen

Parent lunch at Di Mai

When things do not go as planned, how do you get back on your feet? Well you go with the flow and you still make it happen. That’s basically the story of this week’s parent lunch. Originally the parent lunch had a secret plan; celebrating three Mums’ birthdays in November, saying “good bye” to two other Mums and treating a baby (or at least his Mum). It was a surprise for them. The 6 mothers were on the list, the cake was ordered, the flowers bought, gift vouchers ready, souvenirs from Vietnam all wrapped and then it happens! One by one they had to drop the lunch. Out of six, we actually only had two who were able to join the group. Well TX Mums are quite reactive and found a solution. For the “farewell”, the mission was accomplished at 2.30pm when Rashmi delivered the flowers and gifts to Neha and Eriko in the foyer. Akiko received her cake in the evening and for Kim, we are not so sure of the fate of the cake. See, it was given to her son in Y1, so maybe he ate it!? ;)) (only kidding for sure he did give it to his mother). Well done Super TX Mums ;).

Neha and Eriko, we are not saying "good bye" to you now, because we have one more event to share with you on the last week of school and therefore, a final farewell.

All photos from the lunch are saved here: https://goo.gl/photos/hhqKaNiPyHTuJtsBA

The next lunch is scheduled in January 2017. The registration link and details will be given in the next newsletter.

Raffle Ticket Sales

With more than 200 booklets sold, the “sales” team did extremely well. They received extra helpers as well.  Many students joined the parents to sell and they were pretty much convincing…good job everyone. Thank you for helping APS.

In case you did not get a chance to buy your tickets, you still have a chance at the BISzaar if you come early. The money collected will benefit the school partners from the community service project.

Also there will be a silent auction* with amazing prizes such an Air France tickets to Paris, two nights all inclusive at Club Med Bintan Island (Malaysia), even an electric skateboard and more. Don’t miss it.

*Silent auctions are auctions held without an auctioneer. People place their bids on sheets of paper instead.

The Choir

Our very own musical director, Duyen, has now finalised the list of singers and assigned them their group (alto or soprano). So 20 parents will be on stage. Rehearsals are going very well. They now do respect the timing of a 5 minute performance! They also have started to think about their stage outfits…it’s Christmas after all!

If you are part of the group, don’t miss next weeks’ practises (Tuesday 6th, Thursday 8th, Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th December).

Dates for your agenda
  • Dec 14th: a special thank you morning coffee from Ms Mary and Mr Ian (nothing to bring, just come and enjoy a drink)
  • Dec 14th: Christmas market and Christmas concert
  • Dec 15th: the Christmas potluck lunch for parents and teachers. What will you cook this year?

We hope to see you at the BISzaar this Saturday 3rd December from 9am to 2pm. Come with your family to enjoy the Christmas bazaar, there will be games, activities, a book stall, raffle, mini tombola etc…and we’ve heard that a special guest will be there too…guess who? He is dressed in a red costume and has a long white beard!

Have a lovely weekend.

Anne on behalf of the Parent Group
