A representative from the world-famous Juilliard School recently visited BIS HCMC, and was “blown away” by the maturity of the arts programme on offer at the school.
Founded in 1997, the British International School, HCMC has gone from strength to strength and remains the largest international school in the city. The first of the renowned BIS Group of Schools in Vietnam, we are now linked to 42 premier international schools globally, through our Nord Anglia Education family.
This evolution will provide our students with opportunities beyond the ordinary and giving them extraordinary access to unique global experiences, one of which is a direct relationship with the world-renowned Juilliard School.
The Juilliard School, based in New York, is widely regarded as one of the world's leading music schools, with some of the most prestigious arts programmes and aims to “provide the highest calibre of artistic education for gifted musicians, dancers, and actors from around the world, so that they may achieve their fullest potential as artists, leaders, and global citizens.”
Recently, we were visited by Christopher Mossey the Senior Managing Director for Juilliard Global Ventures. The purpose of his visit was to learn more about our performing arts provision in Vietnam and to test our readiness to join the Juilliard programme.
Having been established for nearly twenty years, we have had time to develop a varied Arts Programme through both curriculum delivery and extra-curricular activities. It was an honour to be able to share some of that activity with Mr Mossey and invigorating to hear what he thought of us when he visited: “Yesterday, I visited BIS Ho Chi Minh City, and was really blown away by the maturity of the arts programs at the school.”
Mr Mossey went on to say, “[They] have excellent facilities and teachers. I had a fascinating conversation with five secondary level students, who talked rather passionately about the support they receive from the arts teachers and the ways that participation in the arts has made them more confident individuals.”
BIS eagerly anticipates the benefits of further developing our arts programme through the Nord Anglia Education partnership with Juilliard. This will include incorporating aspects of Juilliard’s specially constructed curriculum into what we do at our school and upgrading dance and drama resources and events. Having a connection with a world famous arts institution will continue to inspire our students to be ambitious and will also provide them with many exciting opportunities i.e. Summer Performing Arts at Juilliard, Global Orchestra to name but a few.
At the British International School, HCMC we have a number of performance opportunities for our primary and secondary campuses. Rehearsals are currently underway for this year’s annual production at An Phu Secondary campus. For this, our Music and Drama departments join forces for what is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the academic year. Look out for more news, hints and #AllThatJazz later on this term.
