Spring Serenade 2016

‘A Spring Serenade’ took place last night, and was a feast for the ears...

A large audience attended the AP2 term 2 concert, and they were treated to an extremely eclectic mix of music and some wonderful performances by the talented students.

The first half of the show featured the smaller ensembles. It began in toe-tapping style with BIS Big Band and their performances of ‘High Maintenance’ and contained something for everyone including Junior School of Rock’s version of ‘Still Into You’ by Paramore, a lovely complex version of the Cole Porter classic song ‘Let’s Fall In Love’ played by the Flute Choir and an up tempo first half finale of ‘Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy’ sung by the Chamber Choir.

Having reset the stage for the second half, the larger ensembles took to the stage.  Concert band took us to a ‘Carnival in Sao Paulo’, the debut of the Irish Folk Group playing some jigs and the spooky sounds of Stravinsky’s ‘Firebird Suite’ finale. The concert ended with Choir, Chamber Orchestra and Concert band and String Ensemble providing the off-stage bands for Tchaikovsky’s 1812 overture including canon fire!

Thanks to all the students for working so hard and putting on such a fabulous performance.
