It’s been a busy final week of Term 2 with Broadway performances jazzing up the school, waves in the swimming pool during the AP2 Interhouse Swimming Gala and Prof David Tappin visiting to lecture on waves of a different kind, tsunamis. This has all been in addition to our usual full schedule of events, activities and lessons.
Leading Tsunami Professor visits BIS
We try to bring the world to AP2 … This week leading academic, Professor David Tappin, in collaboration with our Science and Geography departments, presented his extensive work on tsunamis to an enthusiastic audience of students and teachers. One of Year 12 Geography students commented that it was fantastic to see someone involved in the field talking about the events the students focus on in class. Professor Tappin has worked extensively in the area of tsunamis and we are very grateful to him for taking the time to visit our school.
Broadway Hit Razzle Dazzles AP2
The Secondary Campus has been abuzz this week with students and parents talking about the hit show which our Drama department showcased this week. The standard of music, dance, acting and singing was outstanding and I am constantly moved by the talents of our students. Congratulations to everyone who performed and supported the cast in so many ways. More photos and a write up from Ms Anne-Marie Astley and the students on the BIS Hub.
History across the ages
Our Year 9 historians heard that Year 4 classes had recently been learning about World War Two from the perspective of British children who were evacuated during The Blitz. They seized this opportunity to become history teachers for the day and share their knowledge about the topic.
Taking an holistic approach by investigating the Second World War from the perspective of multiple countries Year 9 students retold the story in an appropriate and accessible way to an eager audience of Year 4 historians visiting AP2 this week.
Go Vap Orphanage Trip
Our Go Vap Orphanage Committee had a very successful visit to the orphanage last week. The children took part in various activities including mask making, learning new tricks with the hula hoop, playing hopscotch and of course the much-loved giant parachute!
With our Year 13 students heading towards exams our University Counselling Department takes a look at the problem of ‘Senioritis’.
Vincent Kwok Competes at National Level in Athletics
Vincent Kwok, from Year 12, recently took part in the Vietnam National Athletics Competition and we are very proud to celebrate his success. Read more and watch his run on the BIS Hub. Participation at this level requires dedication and effort, well done Vincent!
House Swimming Gala
Wednesday saw the Interhouse Swimming Gala which was hotly contested and loudly supported by students rooting for their house. Congratulations to Hanoi who walked away with the trophy. Updates on individual student records when we return to school after the holidays.
The final results were:
Global Issues Network Conference, HCMC
An important part of being an International School and guiding tomorrow’s future leaders is encouraging students to talk about, and address, global issues. Our students attending the recent Global Issues Network Conference held in HCMC did just that.
March 2016: PTG Parent Lunches
Thank you again to our PTG who hosted Parent Lunches during the month of March. These are always well attended and give parents a chance to meet other parents in their child’s year group. The PTG is still open for nominations for next year’s committee until 13 April. If you would like to nominate someone for the PTG, or put yourself up for nomination please contact Susan Wilson at reception who will be happy to help you.
I wish you all a wonderful holiday. To our Year 11 and 13 students whose holidays will be taken up with the revision for their final exams, we wish you well in your studies. Take some time to relax and catch up on much needed sleep.
I look forward to welcoming everyone back to school for the start of Term 3.
