On the Tu Xuong BIS Hub this week:
Welcome Mr Tim Deyes
We were transported to the Amazonian rainforest in assembly this morning. The Year 3 children informed us about the wildlife that can be observed there, and reminded us of our responsibility in looking after the eco-system that exists in South America. We also had a special visitor who was watching our assembly and it gives me great pleasure to welcome Mr Tim Deyes to the British International School, Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr Tim has been a principal for several years working in South America, specifically Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, and is joined in Vietnam by his wife Julia and son, Ulises. He has a daughter, Anastasia who is currently studying at university in Montevideo, Uruguay. We look forward to seeing Mr Tim at TX in the coming weeks; he is planning to join us for the upcoming Vietnamese culture coffee morning on Tuesday 17th May. Look out for more information from Mr Tim in next week’s weekly update.
Despite being a three day working week, it has been a busy one here at TX. On Wednesday, the children in Year 3 went to AP1 to watch the dress rehearsal of 'Peter Pan'. Everyone came back saying it was a wonderful show – congratulations to the children and staff of the AP1 production club. After school on Wednesday Mr Ali took a girls team and a boys team to compete in the city Tee-ball championships. You can find out how the children got on by clicking here.
Student Council Disco
There was air of excitement around TX on Thursday. Outfits had been planned and readied. Songs had been carefully selected by Mr Mike. The teaching assistants had done an amazing job decorating the sports hall. At 2.40pm, one of the highlights of the year began…the Student Council Disco! The dancing (and consuming of pizza) went on until 4.30pm and when quiet returned to the hall there was a sense that everyone had had a fantastic time. Thank you to the student council, Ms Jane and all the other members of staff who were involved.
Congratulations to Khanh Nhu, Naho, Kang Wei, Toshi, Ye Jun and Jeorgia who were this week’s Finer Diners, and a special thank you to Ms Jules who was our guest of honour today.
TX English Conversation Club
I strongly believe that learning should continue throughout life, and that it is never too late to begin learning or developing skills. At TX, we offer a club for our parents to help develop English conversation skills. If this is something you are interested in, please click on the link below for more details:
It is always sad to say goodbye to families who leaving our TX community. Although they will be with us for a short while yet, I wish to join our parents' group in wishing Chitra and Rani and their families a fond farewell from all TX.
As usual you can click on the link below to find out more news from our parents' group about the upcoming Vietnamese Culture coffee morning and events that are happening around the city.
Parents' Coffee Morning - 'Your Kids and Medication'
Following on from the very successful ‘Food and Nutrition’ coffee morning we had with Dr Thao from International SOS last term, we look forward to hearing from Dr Thao again on the subject of ‘Your Kids and Medication’. Nurse Sharyn will also be sharing information about when you should keep your child off school.
Schedule of School Fees 2016 - 2017
One more thing, please see below for the message from our new Principal Mr Tim Deyes about the Schedule of School fees 2016 - 2017.
Schedule of School Fees 2016 - 2017
The Schedule of Fees for the Academic Year 2016 – 2017 has now been published. A copy can be viewed and downloaded from the school web site by following this link:
You will note that compared to last year there has been an average increase in the school Tuition Fees of 4.5%, which is the lowest average fee increase for the school in eight years.
We have kept the fee increase to the minimum that will allow us to maintain the same high quality of educational provision in a growing school. We remain convinced that we represent good value for money and are comparable with similar schools in Vietnam and elsewhere in the region.
And finally can I remind you that our extra-curricular programme begins on Monday - you can check which clubs your child is doing by going to CHQ and clicking on the 'My Schedule' tab.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
Ian Battersby/Head of Tu Xuong Campus
