Community Service Clubs Fair
Our Sixth Form (Year 12/13) students showcased their various Community Service Clubs in the undercroft at lunchtime today, explaining to younger students how they could sign up for the clubs and what each club involved. With so many community service initiatives available to students the clubs cater for a wide range of abilities, all of which focus on helping out the school’s community service partners. Please do encourage your child to sign up for a community service club.
Year 12 Parent Information Evening
The Year 12 Parents Information evening was held this week and was well attended. The IB Diploma is an internationally recognised school leaving qualification and an excellent preparation for students moving onto university. Parents were given an overview of the various components of the IB Diploma course and provided with information on how to help support their sons/daughters over the next two years. Parents also met with tutors and current students to explore the best ways they can support their sons and daughters as they embark upon the IB programme.
Parent Teacher Group
Our PTG is already hard at work looking at how they can better serve the parent body of the school. Please do support them by taking a few moments to complete the online survey.
Our first PTG meeting takes place on Friday 9 September at 08h15 in the meeting room next to reception. Your support is always valued and all parents are welcome to attend and see how they can assist with the wonderful work the PTG undertakes.
Our welcome coffee morning took place this week and was well attended. An evening function will also feature in the calendar to ensure that parents who are not available during the day, will have a chance to socialise with other parents. Details of this will follow in due course.
As part of our ongoing professional development program, this week the teacher training focused on parental engagement and ways in which parents can help to support their children in their learning, as well as continuing to refine the way we work in partnership with parents to support students. We look forward to sharing some of these ideas with you at our upcoming parent information evenings.
Music and Drama Auditions
Drama auditions take place next week for Beauty and the Beast, A Christmas Carol and A Doll’s House. This provides lots of opportunities for our students to showcase their drama talents.
Music auditions for the Chamber Orchestra and Orchestra took place this week and we look forward to seeing our students showcase their talents at our next musical event.
Our collaboration with The Julliard School continues to pay dividends for our music and drama students.
University Guidance at BIS 2016-2017
We have already had our first visits from Universities and Colleges around the world looking to showcase their institutions to our students, with many more visits planned for the year ahead.
As part of looking ahead to university our Year 11 students started on their IB Options Guidance program this week with one on one meetings with students and their parents scheduled for all Year 11 students over the next few weeks.
Student Sports Trials
Our students quite literally hit the ground running this year as trials for Phuket 7’s Soccer took place this week. Students will be advised of team selections next week.
We are delighted to welcome Mr Rick Wheeler, our new Aquatics Director, to the school this year. Swimming trials also took place this week and we look forward to the results.

Remembering a Very Special Teacher
It is with great sadness that I am informing you that Helen Laukam peacefully passed away last night in England. Her husband Ash, who also worked at BIS with Helen, was by her side. Helen taught at the An Phu Primary Campus from August 2012 until the diagnosis of her cancer in December 2013. She was 56 years old.
Helen will be fondly remembered for her love of life and passion for innovative and creative teaching. She ensured that every child that she came into contact with mattered and that they would be inspired, challenged and cared for all at the same time.
Helen Laukam: 1960 - 2016
My best wishes to you for the long weekend ahead.
Carl Mincher, Headteacher at An Phu Secondary
