Meet The New Teachers: Ms Natasha

Our third ‘new’ teacher is new to BIS but not to Vietnam. Already we have discovered that Natasha, originally from the UK is pretty good at speaking Vietnamese and is always looking for opportunities to practice much to our local staff’s delight. Natasha you are putting the rest of us to shame but inspiring also to do something about it!

Natasha who works in our EAL department, answered some of our questions so we could get to know her better.

What are your first impressions of BIS?

It is an absolutely fantastic school with endless opportunities for both the children and staff. I have been blown away by how friendly and welcoming everyone is. The teachers are wholeheartedly committed and love what they do, making it a professional, exciting, and lively environment to be a part of. The children are so enthusiastic and it is brilliant teaching people from all over the world!

What new experience have you had since you arrived in Vietnam?

Although I am new to BIS, I have actually been living in Ho Chi Minh City for about three and a half years. In my second year here, I was part of a team of teachers who cycled from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City to raise money for disadvantaged children in Vietnam. It took one month and it was an incredible journey. Meeting the children who would benefit from our fundraising, cycling for hours alone along a mountain pass and putting my Vietnamese to the test are just three of many very special memories that I will treasure forever. 

What would you like to learn to do?

I would love to learn how to cook Vietnamese food. I think Vietnamese food is delicious and may be the most diverse cuisine I know. I enjoy cooking and baking, but haven't mastered a Vietnamese dish yet. Perhaps I should try a Vietnamese cooking class.
