Tapestry Coffee Morning

‘Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning, but for children play is serious learning’, Mr Rogers

  • Tapestry Coffee Morning at Tu Xuong Campus British International School

In Early Years our children learn through hands on, practical experiences called play!  A question often asked by parents is ‘what are they actually learning?’  This Wednesday, families of our EYFS children were invited to a coffee morning to introduce Tapestry, an online learning journal that showcases and shares the learning of their children in school.

Tapestry is an online platform in which each child has their own personal account to record the journey of their growth and development throughout F1, F2 and F3.  These journals contain observations of individual children’s ‘learning through play’  experiences in the classroom.  Classroom Teachers, Teaching Assistants and Specialist Teachers all contribute to celebrate and share each child’s successes and progress.  Photos, videos and comments help to explain children’s achievements and next steps.

The turnout for this coffee morning was spectacular and all parents who attended successfully logged on to their child’s Tapestry account to view the activities they have been doing in school.  Tapestry also has the option for parents to contribute to their child’s account and we have been overwhelmed with the quality observations parents have been contributing of what the children do at home.  Parents have been posting pictures of children cooking dinner, going on exciting trips, building lego models and even videos of the children storytelling!  This side of Tapestry allows the teachers to gain an all-important picture of each child as a whole.  Best of all Tapestry builds memories of the children’s first years at school and is a journal that the children can look back on when they reach adulthood.

A big thank you to all of the Parents and Grandparents who attended the coffee morning.  If any of you have any further questions on the use of Tapestry then please contact me by e-mail at hayleydodds@bisvietnam.com  or speak to any of our class teachers.
