Meet The New Aquatics Director

Introducing Rick Wheeler, the new Aquatics Director at British International School, HCMC. He has some big ideas for the future of our swimming squad, and he was happy to answer some questions about his ambitious plans.

  • Introducing Rick Wheeler, the new Aquatics Director at British International School, HCMC

Tell us a little bit about yourself? Where are you from and how long have you been coaching?

I have been living in SE Asia for 16yrs, Vietnam for 12yrs. I have 3 children of my own. I am originally from the US and enjoy running, Basketball, Volleyball, Softball.

I have been coaching swimming for the last 6yrs. During my summer holidays I work alongside an ex Olympic swim coach, and have done that for the last three years.

What attracted you to BIS HCMC?

The students and the parents. I have worked privately with some of them and knew that BIS would be the right place for me.

What are you most excited about in your new post?

Taking all of the teams to a higher, more competitive level. Meeting and working with the staff from all three campuses.

What do you think are your biggest challenges with the swim team?

Developing the primary campuses, so that we have a really strong feeder program for the other swim teams.

What would you like to achieve during your time at BIS HCMC?

Be able to teach the swimmers about the mental and technical side of swimming. I would love to develop the unity between the teams. I want to grow the program to be the strongest in Vietnam.

Upcoming swim meets:

1st October 2016 - SSIS Relays

4th October 2016 - ISHCMC Friendly

8th October 2016 - BIS Invitational
