Mr Ian Battersby: Weekly Update 09/09/16

‘Communication leads to community, that is, to understanding, intimacy and mutual valuing.’ Rollo May

  • Community Partners Visit Tu Xuong

Community is about understanding other people’s circumstances, an intimacy that involves getting closer to other members (not just giving money to charitable organisations) and developing an appreciation of others.  You can find out more about Wednesday afternoon’s visit by clicking on this link:

Community Partners Visit TX

Communication lies at the heart of building community. At Tu Xuong, we speak many languages, but as Ms Alicia pointed out in her post, sometimes the communication can be simply a smile.  When someone makes an effort to understand, it gives an individual within the community a sense of value. The communication must flow in all directions, so we always welcome feedback from parents and children; this morning in assembly, the children voted for new house captains, and I look forward to announcing who has been selected next week.  Along with the student council, I meet on a regular basis with the house captains to help them develop their role and their house community.

The New Website

If you have not yet done so, I encourage you to have a look at the new school website.  A lot of time and energy has gone into the changes that have been made, and I would like to draw your attention to two areas:

Parents Essentials – here you can find links to important school documents and information.

News and Insights (Tu Xuong Primary) – on this page, you can find a link to all the class blogs as well as catching up with the news from Tu Xuong and the wider school community.

Year 2 Visit to the City

Continuing with their ‘From A to B’ topic, the children in Year 2 took their learning outside the classroom and enjoyed a trip into the centre of the city with the aim of identifying key landmarks in Ho Chi Minh City.  To find out more about this trip, please click on this link:

Class Reps

Last year our class reps did a fantastic job communicating with the parents in their classes to help ensure everyone knew what was happening within our school community.  I am very pleased to inform you that we now have Class Reps for: F3T, F3X, Y1T, Y1X, Y2T, Y2X, Y3T, Y3X, Y4T, Y4X, Y5T, Y5X and Y6T.  Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to be a Class Rep this year; your help and support will be extremely valuable in our continued efforts to strengthen our TX community.

Please note that we still need a Class Rep for F1, F2, and Y6X. If you would like to volunteer for this role, please speak to the class teacher or Ms Mary.

Hopefully by now you will have received a letter requesting your contact details to be shared with the Class Rep.  These details will be used to create a WhatsApp group to enable efficient and effective communication between all parents in the class.  If you have not received this letter, please print and complete the attachment to Ms Emma’s weekly update email.  The contact details form should be passed to the new Class Rep or the class teacher.

Parents Corner

This week we had the first Parent Group meeting of the academic year.  Parent volunteers joined together with Ms Mary to discuss the events for this term in detail.  Lots of ideas were shared about how we can provide our TX community with even more fun and enjoyment during each event!  New Class Reps were introduced; look out for your Class Rep on a poster outside the classroom soon.  All parents are welcome to attend the Parent Group Meetings.

And Finally…

Thank you to everyone who has already signed up for an appointment to meet your child’s class teacher next Thursday.  If you have not received your login details (for children in Years 1 to 6), please contact Ms Emma in the office to get this rectified.  We have deliberately planned these meetings close to the parents’ information evening in order to help build the right relationship with your child’s teacher at the beginning of the year – further strengthening our community.

All of us at TX also want to wish Ms Mary every success as she competes in ‘Challenge Vietnam’, a half Iron Man race taking place in Nha Trang this weekend.

Whether it be energetic or restful, have a wonderful weekend!
