Crest Science Project at TX 2017

Every year, Year 6 students from APP and TX team up with a student mentor from APS to participate in the Crest Science Project. The children must work together in teams to develop a project and consider carefully the process that they will work through in order to carry out an effective scientific investigation. On Tuesday morning, we visited the APS campus and joined the APP students to begin this process.

Having opportunities to work with students across campuses allows the children to not only share ideas, but develop key social and communicative skills needed to work together effectively. On Tuesday morning, the children had the opportunity to meet with new team mates from APP and come up with a scientific research project and plan of action. Some questions developed included: “How does the surface area of the sole of a shoe, affect the time that it takes for someone to run across the field?” “How does the concentration of an acid affect the time it takes to neutralise?” They then had the opportunity to carry out preliminary investigations, in order to consider how their investigation process will work.

Year 6 will now communicate with their teams as part of their homework and develop their projects further so that in May they are able to conduct their final experiments with the support of an APS student. An exciting opportunity for all involved!
