U19 SISAC City Championships 2017

Under 19 Boys

The SISAC 2017 Basketball Tournament for the Senior BIS boys began with a hard fought victory over ISHCMC in their first game of the day.

The winning streak continued into the next game in which, despite coming under a lot of offensive pressure from AIS. The team’s phenomenal defence helped to secure the win. By this point, the BIS HCMC players had well and truly found their rhythm and overcame the support of the host team to defeat SSIS with relentless defensive pressure and offensive efficiency.

The time then came for the last match of the tournament, where the boys were able to keep their composure and maintain their unbeaten streak to win against TIS.

Overall, the BIS boys had an extremely rewarding tournament experience by finishing in 1st place with 4 consecutive victories. The Senior Boys have now won three annual SISAC tournaments in a row, whilst also maintaining an undefeated streak throughout these years.

Under 19 Girls

The first game was against SSIS. Both teams were not sure what to expect because we hadn't played SSIS before the tournament so everyone was excited but anxious about how the game was going to go. Nevertheless, everyone gave it their all from tip-off. Everyone was communicating, running, trapping, defending and putting pressure on the ball. It was a very long and intense game but in the end, SSIS took the win with a close score of 23-16.

Our second game was against ISHCMC. Here, we were faced with having to play in front of a very big crowd because ISHCMC was the host. Nonetheless, it gave everyone motivation to try harder and play better. We gave them a good challenge and the game ended with a very close score of 28-25 to ISHCMC.

Last year's champions TIS were our third competitor. By now everyone was exhausted from playing two games in a row so we all knew that this was going to be a mentally and physically challenging game. Despite having to play three games consecutively, everyone on the team still managed to motivate each other on and off the court. Once again, everyone gave it all they'd got left but TIS also proved themselves to be a tough team and refused to give us an easy game as well. After what seemed to be the longest 24 minutes, TIS won with the score of 30-18.

After having played three games non-stop, we got a short break before our last game against AIS. At this point, it was very obvious that everyone on the team was exhausted but with motivational speeches from Mr. McLoughlin and Ms. Lucy, we were determined to play again. In the end, BIS HCMC took a close win with the score of 21-20.

Overall, everyone on the team agreed that it was an exceptionally difficult but enjoyable tournament. Everyone was supporting everyone on and off the court. We all trained very hard and gave each team a good challenge. We were unlucky this time but we are all going to learn from this experience and find ways to improve on our game plays and tactics ready for next year's tournament.

Captain Anna Huynh, YR13

Final word from Mr Mc as he delivered one of his famous motivational speeches. A message that has been realised by our wonderful outgoing Year 13s in particular this year...
