Silverware for Final Ever TX Basketball Teams The SISAC U11 Basketball season drew to a close this week, with both boys and girls taking on the rest of the city.

All this term our students have been practising hard at basketball training on Mondays and in friendly fixtures on Wednesdays in preparation for the Championships.

On Wednesday this week our boys team travelled to Saigon South International School to compete in the SISAC U11 Basketball Championship. With nine schools competing, it was going to be a long hard day. We were drawn in a group with SSIS and SIS (Singapore International School). The finishing positions in the group would determine which playoff round we qualified for.

In the first game the boys were excellent, some great shooting and lay-ups by Yong Jun gave us a comfortable win.

TX 36 – 12 SSIS

SIS also defeated SSIS meaning the final group game would decide who would win the group. A fantastic game was played by both teams and SIS were leading by 9 points at half time. The boys showed fantastic character and led by a fantastic display by Nathan, battled back. With 30 seconds left the scores were level, when William looped a shot up from the edge of the key. The ball bounced around for an age before dropping into the net to give TX the win and to top the group.

TX 25 – 23 SIS

That result meant TX qualified for the top playoff group and were drawn with a very strong APP team and defending champions AmIS (American International School.) The boys were leading against APP but a strong second half performance led by former classmate Ye Jun saw APP run out winners.

TX  21 – 36 APP

By this stage the boys were very tired and it showed in the final game. They gave a very spirited performance, especially from Kevin Tran who kept going for the whole 40 minutes and was rewarded with some excellent basketsUnfortunately the AmIS team were too strong and went on to become the eventual champions.

TX 14 – AmIS 38

On Thursday it was the ladies turn. We travelled to BVIS. The tournament had a slightly different format and we knew that if we could win our group it would advance us straight to the final.

First up was RISS. The girls were fantastic with great scoring from Naomi and Jenny; they ran out comfortable winners.

TX 24 – 11 RISS

Next up was EIS in a very close game. Led superbly by Mei with some excellent lay-ups the girls came through to win and qualify for the final!

TX 26 – 16 EIS

After a long wait whilst other games were being played, it was time for the final v BVIS, and there were a few nerves before the game. A very tight and close game between two very good teams was settled by some great shots by BVIS.

TX 4 – 11 BVIS

The girls should be very proud of themselves. Basketball was new to all but 2 players this year, and we were definitely the only team with Y4 students, second place is a tremendous achievement.
