Mr Simon Higham: Weekly Update 08/12/17

Well done to all of the squad who arrived back safely from the Nord Anglia Games that took place over the weekend at St Andrews school in Bangkok. The children’s achievements were recognised by all of our school in today’s Friday Assembly – well done for all of your hard work, sportsmanship and efforts.

  • Christmas Concert

Likewise, well done to all of our performers who took part in their Christmas shows this week. From our Milepost 1 production of ‘Gnome Alone’ on Wednesday to our ‘Singalong’ with F1 and F2 children on Thursday and rounding off the week with the F3 Christmas show on Friday, they all performed to the best of their abilities, promoting the Christmas message and enjoying themselves immensely along the way.

On Thursday, the whole school performance showed how our entire school works together in unity to show both its strength and musical abilities. With the impending amalgamation, this will be the final time that An Phu Primary and Tu Xuong Primary Campuses will perform together in this event, paving the way for future events involving the Early Years and Infant Campus, Junior and Secondary campuses.  It was a magnificent concert and the children should be extremely proud of their performances.  Hats off to our Music department who have had a very busy week and this continues next week with the An Phu Primary Concert on Tuesday which we are very much looking forward to.

For further information regarding the development of our new campus and the developments planned for BIS HCMC Junior Campus, please visit this area of the school website.

International Week 2018 – Update

International week has traditionally been held in the first half of Term 2 at the Primary Campus. Due to our phased amalgamation with TX, we have made the decision to postpone International Week until Term 3. As a leadership team and after consultation with the International Week committee, we felt it would be unfair to students, teachers and parents to hold such a huge event when children and teachers will only just be settling into their new classrooms and campuses.

We will confirm the new date ASAP but it is most likely to be in June towards the end of Term 3. We feel this date will allow all students to have settled into the EY & I and Junior Campus and will also provide a fitting end to our amalgamation as we come together as a school to celebrate such a special event for our international community.

We would like to thank all of our parent community for your support and understanding about these changes.

Christmas Post Box – it’s back for the festive season!

The christmas post box delivery service is running well and being filled on a daily basis with cards being delivered to classes by our Year 3 helpers. The service is open to all of our children who can post their letters to friends and teachers at school and they will be delivered to classes over the final week of term.  Please ensure that all letters are addressed with the following details:

  • Name of recipient
  • Class (name and letter)

The post boxes continue to be located outside Ms Dee’s office and the canteen.

Help Traffic Flow in Thao Dien with Carpool Karaoke

With the advent of the new campus in Thao Dien, BIS HCMC are committed to exploring as many ways as we can to keep the traffic flowing in the neighbourhood.  Click on this link to see what BIS are up to and what you can do to play your part in keeping our traffic flowing.

Traffic Flow

We are pleased to inform you all that our traffic continues to flow at the peak times of both drop off and pick up. However, recently we have noticed that a small number of cars are still parking along Nguyen Van Huong Street between Gate B and Gate A. It only takes one car to stop the traffic flow so please ensure that this stretch of road is used for drop off and pick up only. As always, your support in this matter is very much appreciated.

  • Ask your driver to show respect to our guards and follow their instructions – they are there to keep you all safe and have a difficult job when drivers ignore their instructions.
  •  Explain to your driver that their actions reflect upon your family – ask them to respect all of our school community to make our school the very best that it can be.

Always remember to Stop, Drop and Go to keep the traffic flowing.

Examination Invigilators Needed

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing the examination venue prior to examinations in accordance with regulations
  • Distribution of scripts and supervision of students during examinations
  • Team work skills and flexibility are essential

No experience is required as full training will be given and the position is on a casual basis with days/hours being variable depending on examination demands.

Please note that due to the Community Football Tournament on Sunday, Saturday Football will take place for only Year 2 and Year 3 children this week.

The training will run from 9.00am – 10.00am on the astro turf pitch.

Fee Payment and Registration Forms

Thank you very much to all parents who have completed a registration form and made payment of the fee. A reminder that the fee is VND500k with a football kit and reduced to VND350k if your child re-uses their kit from last year. We will check all registration forms and issue an appropriate refund if a parent has paid the higher fee before the discounted amount was announced.

Shin Pads and Long Socks

Please ensure that your child always wears suitable long football socks and shin pads (they can be bought at the school shop or local sports shop). This prevents injury. Several children have not been wearing shin pads/socks at recent training.

Coaches needed for Y2/3 and 4/5/6 & Administration Volunteers

We are still looking for more Parent Coaches for the Y2/3 and Y4/5/6 teams. For each year group we want to make small coach teams (with parent and student coaches) so we/you are more flexible in case of you have to travel/have other commitments. Don’t worry too much about experience, as you will work in a team. Let us know if you can run one session and/or help to run a session each week.

Reminders:

*Please remember children need to wear sports kit.

*Please remember all children need shin pads with football socks to protect their legs.

*Please remember they must bring a water bottle.

*Hat or cap is optional

*You can buy Football socks from the BIS Uniform Shop, or any sports shop.

*For parents who are unable to stay throughout the whole training, would appreciate to arrive 10 minutes before your children's session ends to pick them.
