Our first week back at school was jam paced with football fixtures as we kicked off a new season. After Christmas, and Tet holidays, how did our U14A Boys fair against stiff local competition...

Match 1 – Tuesday 7th February v SSIA (H)

Lost 4–5, scorers are Dylan 2, Andy 1, Seo Jun 1

Straight after the Tet holiday, the BIS HCMC U14A boys football team were given a very challenging task to complete in their first game of the season against SSIS. The first ten minutes of the game was very much dominated by SSIS with Rafael doing a very good defensive job in order to keep them away from our goal.

We took the lead through Dylan, with a nice tiki-taka play by Campbell and Rafael who played a good through ball; it wasn't the prettiest of goals but they all count. Jon and Son were doing a brilliant job of holding the defence together and Khanh came up with a few early saves. Soon, Andy managed to score a brilliant second goal and Dylan scored a third with a left foot volley.

Just before halftime SSIS pulled a goal back but we were extremely pleased with how the performance was going and we went into the second half with a strong mind-set. Unfortunately, a few of our players started to struggle with cramp.

The first goal of the second half went to SSIS; our defence was not good enough and we were punished for it. At this point our goalie, Khanh, was really struggling with a leg problem but still managed to make a few great saves. Our fourth goal was a brilliant individual strike by Seo Jun with a shot from outside the box to give us a 4–2 lead. At this point we were trying to play more defensively, because lots of our players were struggling with cramp issues. SSIS managed to come up with two long range screamers to level the game. BIS HCMC fought back, with Rafael driving the team to forward and building pressure on their goalie but we could not find a way through.

In the final three minutes of the game SSIS scored another to win the game. We were extremely disappointed with the result but happy with the way we performed. We have learnt a lot from our first game and hopefully we can improve and get a win the next game.

Match 2 – Thursday 9th February v ISHCMC (H)

Won 5–1, scorers are Yurii 3, Rafael 1, Dylan 1

In the second game of the season, the U14 boys A team faced ISCHMC at home. We knew this was going to be a tough game as we knew many of the opposition and we were all looking forward to it.

We made a good first impression with a calm and well organised warm up nice as we sensed the stares of our rivals from the other end of the pitch. The whistle blew and ISHCMC kicked off. They looked a little disjointed at the back, and in the early minutes we took full advantage as Rafael played the ball to Yurii who took his chance by putting the ball at the back of the net.

Not long after, Jon made a brilliant long throw through their defence for Rafael to run on to and make the score 2-0. Still in the first half and Dylan got an amazing run with the ball down the left hand side of the field and smashed it in off the right post with an absolute screamer. Half time and it was 3-0 to us.

The ref whistled for second half and on we go, with BIS HCMC kicking off. ISHCMC pull 1 goal back before Yurii got the ball in the middle of the park and decided to go into beast mode and takes on all of ISCHMC’s defence and goalkeeper to score a breathtaking goal.

In the closing minutes of the game, Rafael played a chip over the last defender for Yurii to run on to to complete his hat trick and round off a 5-1 victory. The defenders were superb all game and kept ISHCMC away from our goal for most of the game, especially Oliver who fought to win every ball.
