Year 12 CAS Projects – 2017 Donations

At the end of last term, and this week, Year 12 CAS project groups have been visited by representatives of Endangered Asian Species Trust (EAST), Newborns Vietnam and Christina Noble Children’s Foundation to reflect upon their campaigns and handover their donations.

  • EAST2 British International School HCMC

Endangered Asian Species Trust

At the end of last term, representatives of the EAST Year 12 group met with Marina, Director of EAST to talk about their campaign day. Students explained how they raised awareness of the work of EAST and the animals that they are protecting. They also showed examples of some of their merchandise and Marina was very impressed.

EAST Year 12 group made an amazing 21,125,000VND. This will go towards their Pygmy Loris enclosure and night cameras so hopefully sometime soon, students can get a closer look at these nocturnal primates!

Newborns Vietnam

This week, representatives of the Newborns Vietnam Year 12 group met with Mr Ken Atkinson, Chairman of Newborns to discuss their project. They were eager to ask questions about future projects for Newborns and Ken encouraged the students to continue to raise awareness of this issue in and outside of school. The more people know about these issues the more that can be done about it! He was very impressed by their campaign.

Newborns group raised a wonderful 8,410,000VND – this money has gone to support the NGO in buying stethoscopes from the UK for the hospitals they support in Danang. Thanks to Newborns, the students now have a framed certificate that can be displayed in the Sixth Form Common Room!

Christina Noble Children’s Foundation

A large group of students from CNCF Year 12 group came to meet Piers, Phuong and Ngoc Anh from the CNCF Fundraising and Marketing team.

Students spoke about their interesting fundraising activities that drew crowds of students to the basketball pitch to see teachers getting sponged! Not only was there lots of fun, they worked hard in sending a clear message about the work of CNCF and how students can help.

If you haven’t seen it already, here is a video they made of their campaign day:

CNCF Year 12 group made a fantastic 14,703,300VND which will go towards CNCF’s education sponsorship programme.

Poussières de Vie  & Project Aware

The remarkable work of the Poussières de Vie (PdV) group and Project Aware group has also been acknowledged by representatives of these organisations who have thanked them for their support. The funds from both these organisations were sent directly to them.

PDV group worked really hard on campaign day to raise awareness of street children in Vietnam. They designed some interesting fundraising games that also informed every one of the work of PDV and how they can support. PDV group made an impressive 12,758,00VND - this has gone directly to their BAFA project in KonTum that trains the local minority youth to become animation leaders and later work for PdV in the local orphanages in and around Kon Tum.

Project Aware group had a clear connection with their project as all students in this group were going on the trip to the Philippines. The students were able to see first-hand what Project Aware are fighting for! The three subgroups of this campaign raised awareness for Marine Debris, Sharks & Rays and Ecotourism. The three groups together made an incredible 28,855,000 VND. This has gone directly to Project Aware to supporting in:

  • Fighting to stop the ugly journey of our trash through the launch of our Adopt a Dive Site Campaign
  • Insisting on full protections for the most vulnerable shark and ray species by securing unprecedented global trade regulations for sharks & ray through CITES CoP17
  • Negotiating policies that ensure a brighter future for our ocean and its wildlife
