A Culinary Revolution in BIS: Progress!
On Tuesday the 21st of February the Head Students, members of the Catering Committee from the Student Council and the Prefect Team met up with the Caterers including Mr. Stephen Kerslake to discuss potential improvements we could implement in our school’s catering system.
Discussions ranged from ideas concerning portion size, availability of vegan/vegetarian options, and sustainable ways we could dispose of the food as well as preventing excess waste.
We were very pleased to see immediate feedback and solutions from the Caterers who
Half sized baguettes
Signs indicating set lunches in the underground
Option of selecting a suitable rice portion (little, minimum, a lot of rice) to minimise food wastage
A new salad bar with diversified vegan and vegetarian options!
This was a really progressive call of action from our first discussion with The Caterers!
Student Council Meeting: Global Goals Project
During our meeting on the 22nd of February, the British International School, HCMC, Student Council introduced a new project in partnership with the BIS Global Goals Club. Working to create an Action Plan for the Nord Anglia Education - UNICEF Global Challenge 2017. Form Reps are collectively working with existing committees and extracurricular activity (ECAs) groups amongst the student body in order to tackle Goals 2 (Zero Hunger) and 3 (Good Health and Well Being) from the Sustainable Development Goals.
Filled by heated discussions, the meeting saw innovative ideas raised by our Form Reps, ranging from mental health awareness-raising challenges to anti-food waste initiatives aiming to contribute to the local community outside of BIS HCMC. As the Student Council will be working to promote and tackle these two SDG goals towards Term 3, please watch out for any updates and see how you may get involved!

PTG Committee (Student Council) Meeting
Last week, The Head Team, the Global Goals Team and our student PTG Committee on behalf of the Student Council met with members of PTG. We discussed various ways to bring the work of the PTG and students closer together, in order to promote student welfare and encourage school spirit and participation.
Given the theme of health and wellbeing, we proposed ideas that could incorporate this theme into upcoming events, such as the Quiz Night, which will contain questions formed on the basis of the global goals. The PTG Committee and the PTG are also now set to meet regularly, in order to initiate and collaborate on new and exciting whole school events!
