Mr Ian Battersby: Weekly Update 10/03/17

Thank you!  Thank you! Thank you!  I don’t think I can say thank you enough times to all the parents and friends of the school who contributed to making the TX Fete such a wonderful event.

It was so heart-warming to see so many members of our school community working and having fun together last Saturday.  The generosity of our parents in not only giving so much of their precious time, but also in helping secure so many prizes for our raffle was truly overwhelming.  The children really enjoyed all aspects of the day and it was great to see our friends from Poussieres de Vie performing and delighting in the activities that were on offer.

For a fuller account of the day, please see Ms Mary’s post, Ms Alicia’s post reflecting largely on PdV’s time at the fete and Parents’ Corner:

Announcement - New BIS HCMC Early Years and Infant Campus

Many of you may already be aware of an exciting new phase of development for our school.  A purpose-designed Infant Campus is currently under construction in District 2.  This new facility will cater for children from Fundinotots through to Year 2.  On completion, our An Phu and Tu Xuong Primary campuses will amalgamate, which will afford an enhanced learning environment for all our Primary students and teachers and will boast many significant environmentally friendly features and creative learning spaces.

This will also mean that all three of our BIS HCMC campuses will be conveniently based in District 2. The new building is planned to open in January 2018.  We will continue to keep you updated with all related progress.

Whatever the Weather

Without doubt, one of the highlights of the school year, the Spring Concert never fails to impress and inspire.  With this year’s theme, ‘Whatever the Weather’, it was fabulous to see so many students on the stage performing together.  To see some spectacular photographs and to read more about the concert, please follow the link below:

Year 4 Trip to Long Hai

Two weeks ago, there was a post about the first part of the BIS residential trip programme which begins in Year 3 (Year 3 Sleepover).  Each subsequent residential trip builds on the children’s previous experiences and challenges them to become more independent, to develop their teamwork skills and to try new experiences that take them beyond their comfort zone.  When I joined the Year 4 children on their residential trip to Long Hai this week, all of this was evident.

Although the children had slept over in the school hall, for some it was the first time they had stayed in a different location from their parents.  Others were sharing a room and being responsible for keeping it tidy; a major challenge.  The different activities required creativity and teamwork; one of the keys to successful learning.

F1 Investigate Houses and Homes

Our Year 4 children had a wonderful time in Long Hai, it was a terrific adventure for them all.  When you are in F1, adventure takes on a different meaning.  Getting on a bus at school, driving through Saigon streets without your mummy, and spending time in Ms Grace’s apartment; that is adventurous for a 2-year-old.  And that is exactly what our F1 children did last week.  They had a super time, and you can find out more about it by following this link:
