Respect is something we have been focusing on at TX over the last few weeks and although we recognise and celebrate our differences, we also ensure that we are respectful to everyone. Ms Holly has written a post to explain a bit more about what it means to be respectful:

‘How is my child doing at school?’
As parents, this is a question that we need to know the answer to. As a school we try to answer this question through reports, parents’ evenings, email, updates and having an open door policy; at the beginning and end of the day, our teachers and teaching assistants are always available to answer questions and provide support. Next week, our Vietnamese families have an opportunity to meet their child’s Vietnamese teacher. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up for an appointment. If you have not yet done so, please check your email and use the details to book an appointment through the school’s online Parents’ Evening Signup website.
SIMS Learning Gateway
School Information Management System (SIMS) is used by the school to keep all records of the teachers and children, to register the children each day, to store electronic copies of reports and other documents, to name but a few of its applications. Certain information can be accessed by parents from home via the SIMS Learning Gateway (SLG), including copies of past reports. Next week I will be sending an email to all parents with details of how you can log into SIMS Learning Gateway from home.
In an attempt to help parents stay informed about their child’s progress, this year at TX we are introducing a third report to add to the interim report you receive in December and the end of year report you receive in June. This Report Update will provide you with the information about your child’s attainment and effort in the core subjects, and highlight 4 areas, taken from our outstanding learning statements (in the back of the children’s diaries) where your child is showing a particular strength.
We will not be sending home paper copies of this report. Instead, the Report Update will be available only via SIMS Learning Gateway, so when you receive your login details next week, please log in to make sure you can access the site, and let us know if you have any problems.
Milepost 2 Swimming Gala
The swimming pool was the place to be on Thursday afternoon this week. All the children in Milepost 2 divided up into their houses; Saigon, Hanoi, Hue and Dalat and tried their best to earn victory in the annual swimming gala. For more details, please see Mr Ali’s post:

EAL Coffee Morning
The majority of our children at Tu Xuong speak English as an additional language, in other words, the language they speak when they are at home is not English. Ms Jane, Ms Michelle and Mr Luke hosted a coffee morning on Wednesday to explain how we support children to develop their English to a point where they can fully access the learning in the classroom. They also provided some insights into how parents can support language development at home.
Their suggestions about how to help your child and a copy of their presentation is available here:

This will also mean that all three of our BIS HCMC campuses will be conveniently based in District 2. The new building is planned to open in January 2018. We will continue to keep you updated with all related progress.

Parents’ Corner – 17/3/17
Over the last few weeks we have been writing about the importance of health and safety in the school. We have been asking all parents to wear their swipe cards in lanyards when they are in school and talking to the children about ‘walking and talking’ when moving around the school, to name two examples. Another aspect of health and safety is ensuring that our emergency evacuation procedures are in place, and we had a very successful practice working alongside our local fire service.
This weekend I would also like to wish our FOBISIA Maths Challenge team every success as they compete against other schools in Kuala Lumpur. I would also like to invite you to our Milepost 3 Production: Shrek. The children have been working really hard rehearsing and did a wonderful dress rehearsal this morning to the rest of TX. The production starts at 6pm on Tuesday 21st March – I look forward to seeing you there.
Have a fantastic weekend,
Ian Battersby/ Head of Tu Xuong Campus
