Mr Carl Mincher: Weekly Update 24/03/2017

This weekend is the annual Global Issues Network (GIN) Conference in HCMC, a great opportunity for students to discuss and debate solutions to global issues occurring in our local Saigon community and throughout the world. The event also offers them the opportunity to meet with other students who are also active Community Service volunteers in HCMC. My best wishes go to the students and teachers attending the event. Under discussion will be water sustainability issues. Access to safe, clean water has a central role to play in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals which hold a high profile in our learning and so this week I begin with an appreciation of the work of our sixth form events committee.

World Water Week

Our events committee did a wonderful job to raise awareness of the most pressing water challenges during World Water Week. Through the exchange of ideas with other organisations and fostering new thinking the week culminated with all students and staff symbolising our new shared understanding and commitments as the events committee organised around 800 people into a perfect water drop. My thanks go to the students and teachers who put so much work into organising various lunchtime events around the water week theme

DVD Available for Spring Concert

Following our very successful and most enjoyable Spring Music Concert ‘Whatever the Weather’ held at the Ben Thanh Theatre recently, parents are now able to order a professionally filmed DVD of the event. Orders for DVD’s, which cost VND 50,000 each, can be placed with the Secondary cashier before Wednesday 29th March.

Student Photo Orders

A reminder that the last date to make payment to the school cashier for student photo orders is Tuesday 28th March. Your child was given the order form at school last week to bring home. Please return the order form, together with the required cash payment, to the cashier at the Secondary Campus. I would like to remind you that we will not be able to accept late orders. Our Sports Team photos and those of Music, MUN, Drama and Year 12 & 13 prefect groups are on display outside the cashier’s office and may be ordered directly from the cashier.

Year 9 Shoestring Science Community Project

Following last week’s science lesson delivered to Year 5, this week our Year 9 scientists went on to teach a lesson to the students from one of our Community Service partners, Tran Quoc Toan. Our visiting students were very impressed by the experiments put together by Year 9 on their very limited budgets and we hope that the ideas we shared will be put to good use by Tran Quoc Toan school. Mr Matthew Lambert, Head of Science, shares his view of the lesson.

Beauty & The Beast - Drama Performance

Not surprisingly, tickets for this event are sold out and our cast and musicians will be hard at work this weekend polishing their performances for next week. We are all really looking forward to the show next week!

U19 Boys SISAC City Football Championships 2017

This week there was great excitement in the PE department as our U19 boys fought a tough match to claim victory in the SISAC City Football Championships. An overview of the game and a link to their enthusiastic victory song can be seen on the school website. Very well played boys.

Parent Satisfaction Survey Results

A letter was sent to all parents this week summarising the results of our recent parent satisfaction survey. Thank you to all of you who took time to complete the survey - as always, your feedback is very much appreciated and will be used to make our school and its community even stronger.
