It was Thursday 30th March and there was a buzz of nervous excitement in the air; the Milepost 2 Speech Competition final was about to begin. The speeches were entitled ‘One Way to Change the World’ and ten finalists from across Year 3 and Year 4 had been selected.
Many weeks of preparation had gone into drafting, writing, editing and practising these inspirational speeches. The speech had to be 2-5 minutes long and the children needed to explain their idea for making our world a better place. We heard many speeches on how to reduce plastic consumption – a huge problem in Vietnam – how to create cleaner air and ideas for solving the problem of too much rubbish. After careful deliberation by the Milepost 2 teachers, the finalists were selected: Mei, Dolly, Jolie, Ingrid and Tupo (Year 3) and Toshi, Kathy, Alvin, Thy and Hoai Thuong (Year 4)
The four judges – Ms Hayley, Ms Jane, Mr Chris and Mr Tim had an impossible decision to make. All of the finalists did an outstanding job and the audience were spellbound listening to their inspirational words. Finally, Thy was named this year’s winner after an exceptional speech about climate change. Congratulations to Thy and all of the finalists.
