Language In Focus

The EAL team are so excited to have launched ‘Language in Focus’ this month, a celebration of all the languages we speak here at BIS APP.

  • EAL Assembly-1371
  • Language in Focus display

With this project, the students will engage with a different language each half term, which will be introduced in the whole school assembly. There will also be exciting activities to do in class, a colourful and informative display outside the canteen, and an interactive Language in Focus blog which you can you can use at home.

A very special video was shown in assembly last Friday, which featured thirty-five students from F1 all the way to year 6, saying “hello” in their first language. It was so inspiring to see how eager the students were to share their languages with us on film, and it was even more wonderful to see the enthusiastic response from their friends and the teachers watching.

To select the first language, we took a number of languages spoken here at APP and put them into the EAL ‘Language Generator’. With a roaring drumroll from the students, Polish was chosen and will therefore be the focus next half term! We just can’t wait to get started!
