Mr Ian Battersby: Weekly Update 21/04/2017

Welcome back! I hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.  This week has been an eventful one at Tu Xuong with many classes beginning new IPC topics and the ‘House of Thrones’ problem solving activity taking place.

  • TX Weekly Update Mr Ian

On Thursday, you should have received information regarding a change of leadership for BIS, HCMC from the next academic year. The letter from Mr Shaun Williams, outlining this change is copied below:

Dear Parents,

I am writing to inform you that Tim Deyes has decided to step down from his role as the Principal of BIS on 30 June 2017, due to personal reasons. On behalf of everyone at Nord Anglia Education, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tim for all his hard work over the last 14 months in ensuring the school’s continued reputation as the best school in Ho Chi Minh City.

Tim has only been with the school for a short time, but he has been able to bring 25 years of international education and leadership experience to the role and make a difference in that short time. His belief that ‘everything counts and everything matters’ has been evident in delivering excellence in education at the school. Please find attached a letter which he would like to share with you.

We have appointed Anthony Rowlands to the position of Principal to replace Tim. Anthony is currently the Principal of another Nord Anglia Education school, BIS Hanoi. Anthony held senior leadership positions in three FOBISIA schools before becoming the founding Principal of his current school in 2012. He is an extremely experienced educator and school leader and is ideally positioned to build on BIS HCMC’s successes to date and ensure it remains a leading school in the South East Asia region. Anthony will work with Tim and the excellent senior leadership team to ensure a smooth transition.

These are indeed unfortunate circumstances, but I am sure you will join me in wishing Tim the very best with his future plans. If you have any questions, please contact me on shaun.williams@nordanglia.com

Yours faithfully,

Shaun Williams

Regional Managing Director, Southeast Asia

Nord Anglia Education

On behalf of all of us at Tu Xuong Primary Campus, we would like to wish Mr Deyes and his family all the very best for the future and also take this opportunity to wish Mr Rowlands every success for the next academic year and beyond.

House of Thrones

Learning together, perseverance, reflection, integrity and respect; these qualities were all put to the test as the children in Milepost 1, Milepost 2 and Milepost 3 got together with the other children in their houses to compete to claim the title, ‘The House of Thrones!’  To begin with the children had 8 tasks to complete ranging from building a device to retrieve a key to solving as many mathematical problems in a given time.  If the children were successful, they would receive a crown.  To find out who claimed the Throne of Viesteros, please follow the link below:

Baker Books – Summer 2017

I have written many times about the importance of reading.  As parents, there is no greater gift that we can give to our children than passing on the joy of reading.  The evidence is clear, children who regularly read for pleasure, achieve higher results academically and are more successful in life in general.  It is my opinion that you cannot have too many books at home, so once again we are working with Baker Books to provide an opportunity to purchase quality books to be shared and enjoyed.

For more information about how to purchase the books, please see the link below:

UNICEF and BIS HCMC Working Together To Promote Sustainable Development Goals

UNICEF has challenged students at BIS HCMC to raise awareness of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and to work with their local communities to create solutions for these global issues. Read this post by our Central Team at Nord Anglia Education for more details about how your child can get involved and make a difference to our planet, and the issues that encompass it.

Announcement – New BIS HCMC Early Years and Infant Campus

Many of you may already be aware of an exciting new phase of development for our school.  A purpose-designed Infant Campus is currently under construction in District 2.  This new facility will cater for children from Fundinotots through to Year 2.  On completion, our An Phu and Tu Xuong Primary campuses will amalgamate, which will afford an enhanced learning environment for all our Primary students and teachers and will boast many significant environmentally friendly features and creative learning spaces.

This will also mean that all three of our BIS HCMC campuses will be conveniently based in District 2. The new building is planned to open in January 2018.  We will continue to keep you updated with all related progress.
