Zimbe Youth FOBISIA Choir
The FOBISIA Youth Choir of Ho Chi Minh City is a new collaboration between BIS, BVIS and ABC International School. Their debut concert, the ‘Joy of Song’ was held on Thursday 18th May at Soul Academy where they performed alongside the International Choir and Orchestra of Ho Chi Minh City.
In an outstanding musical performance which ranged from a gospel medley to Zimbe!, a fusion of traditional African songs and Jazz, the choir placed firmly on the HCMC musical scene. Watch out for their next musical performance in the new school year.
FOBISIA Intermediate Music Festival May 2017 - Kuala Lumpur
The group of students who recently attended the Fobisia Music festival returned filled with their passion for music and with stories to tell of the friends they had made and the new pieces of music they had learnt. Debbie Tran from Year 10 reflects on what the festival meant to her
“During the hours of rehearsals whether in sectionals or full rehearsals with the orchestra I made friends. It was so much fun to meet other students and socialise with people who share the same passion as you.”
Mrs Emma Husband, Assistant Head of Music gives us details on the event.
Literature Drama Performance A Doll’s House
The literature performance which takes place each year is designed to give an opportunity to some of our most talented actors in Years 10 and 12 to take on a challenging theatrical text. It is also a way to support the studies of English literature students by allowing them access to a live performance of a text that they are studying, something that can be very difficult within an international environment.
This year’s performance of Ibsen’s classic play ‘A Doll’s House’ was well received by the audience, with some outstanding performances by students who took on the challenging roles.
Developing Teacher’s Skills
As part of BIS’s aims to support teaching staff in developing their skills and provide access to training in new and emerging technologies, this week provided an opportunity to upskill and ‘up-confidence’ primary teachers. A project in the Secondary Design Technology department provided access to new technology and the time and opportunity, to form positive relationships between our Primary and Secondary DT teachers.
Maria Shooter, F2S Class Teacher/Primary Design Technology Leader, tells us about the visit.

ISHCMC Invitational Swim Meet
Over 400 swimmers took part recently in the 6th Annual ISHCMC Invitational Swim Meet 2017. Of the ten schools in the region which took part, BIS was very well represented with over 100 swimmers competing and we were delighted to win the ‘Most Effective’ team trophy, meaning that we had garnered the most points per swimmer. Congratulations to all those who took part on your perseverance and great teamwork! A list of top placings and an overview of the event is on the school website.
I wish you a wonderful weekend with your family.
