Mr Ian Battersby: Weekly Update 23/06/2017

The final assembly of the year is always charged with emotion.  We look back and celebrate the achievements of the past twelve months.  This morning we listened once again to those who achieved success in the Milepost speech competitions.  With pride, teachers and parents watched as the children confidently stood in front of a crowded hall and eloquently delivered their speeches.  There was also sadness as we had to say goodbye to members of our TX community.

Firstly, I would like to say a huge thank you, and wish a fond farewell to 5 members of the teaching team at Tu Xuong; Ms Alice, Ms Chloe, Ms Estelle, Ms Jane and Ms Jess.  It is a real privilege for me to work with such talented and dedicated professionals.  For those who are moving on to new positions, we wish them every success, and to Ms Jane who is bringing her teaching career to an end, we wish you a very happy retirement.

There are also 3 members of staff who are not leaving Vietnam, but who will no longer be based at the TX Campus.  Ms Holly and Ms Precious will be teaching classes at the An Phu Primary Campus, and we look forward to seeing them again when the two campuses amalgamate in January.  Congratulations to Ms Emma who is expanding her admissions role to oversee the work on both primary campuses.

This year, we are also saying goodbye to two members of our cleaning team. Ms Ha and Ms Yen have been working for BIS for seventeen years.  Often going unnoticed, they are always there to make sure that our school looks amazing, and I want to thank them for all those years of dedication and hard work.

Lastly, we say cheerio to the children who will be moving on to new schools.  Some will be starting a new school here in Vietnam, others are returning to their home country or off to begin a new adventure in another location.  Then there are our wonderful Year 6 children who are, of course, not leaving BIS but beginning the next chapter of their education at the An Phu Secondary Campus.  Wherever they may be heading, we wish them well and look forward to hearing how they are getting on next year.

Year 6 Leavers 2016-17

Here is a message from the Year 6 teaching team for all our Year 6 leavers:

“After a successful and eventful year at TX it is time to say good-bye to you, our Year 6 children and wish you well as you move on to pastures new. You have enjoyed so many things this year, including the International Week buffet, Dam Sen Park, dissecting pig’s brains and the Gopeng trip. Each one of you has learned new skills in Y6 as well as further developing skills that you had already. It is always amazing to see you at this time of year as you prepare for secondary and to compare you to how you were when you started the year. You have grown, both physically and emotionally, into more mature children ready for the next stage in your education.

Some of you have been here since you were very young, whilst others joined the school more recently. Congratulations to all of you who have been learning at TX since the Foundation Stage years and who received a long serving award from Mr Ian today in the last assembly of the year.

You have formed friendships that will remain strong over the coming years and now is the time that you can also look forward to building new friendships at secondary school. There are many more exciting opportunities lying in wait over the coming years and we encourage you to make the most of these. To do this, you should tackle each challenge ‘head-on’ with a positive attitude. TX has been a very good start for your educational journey, setting you up for a successful start at secondary school.

The Leavers’ Party with parents and the Leavers’ Assembly were great ways to finish a successful last year at TX.  Your assembly really demonstrated how well you work together. You can learn from this experience; the more effort you put in, the more open your minds are and more positive your teamwork is, then the more you will achieve. We wish you all the best at secondary school and look forward to hearing how you are doing when we see you around AP2 next year!”

There were a few tears as we said goodbye this morning, but there were also big smiles and proud moments when we celebrated the last 2 aide memoire characteristics; ‘perseverance’ and ‘learning together’. Congratulations to all those children who received their outstanding learning badges and certificates this morning.

26/6/17 – 22/08/17: Summer Holiday

22/08/17 – New Student Induction

23/08/17 – Term 1 2017-18 starts

23/08/17 – Welcome and Welcome Back Coffee Morning @ 8.00am in the TX Foyer

24/08/17 – Welcome Coffee Morning in the An Phu Primary canteen from 8.00am to 10.00am

And Finally…

The 2016-2017 academic year has come to a close – the holidays are here.  This summer will be a most memorable one for Ms Hayley and Mr Matthew, and Ms Lissy and Mr Andy; we send all our best wishes and our warmest congratulations on their forthcoming marriages.

It has been a great year for learning at TX and I would like to thank everyone for all their hard work in making this happen; teachers, teaching assistants, the office team, the guards, cleaners, maintenance teams, IT teams, parents and of course our wonderful children.  Our learning community goes from strength to strength and every person has played their part in making Tu Xuong such a wonderful place for children to flourish – thank you.

I sincerely hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable holiday and look forward to seeing you again in August,

Ian Battersby/ Head of Tu Xuong Campus
