Mr Simon Higham: Weekly Update 22/09/17

Read time: 4 minutes

It has been another great week of learning at An Phu Primary Campus with all classes now fully into the swing of the curriculum.

  • Year 4 Science-min

Congratulations to all of our F1 children who have now progressed through their settling programme with some attending school on a full time basis for the first time ever. In addition to this, it has been lovely to witness the return of many of our Fundinotot parents who have been attending school each morning from 8.00am. If you would like more information regarding Fundinotots please click here.

'Talk for Writing' workshop

Thank you to all the parents who attended the ‘Talk for Writing’ workshop on Thursday morning. Everyone had a fabulous time learning what T4W is all about!

Parents played a game to spark some creativity and get their imaginations working, before being taught a story called ‘The Papaya That Spoke’ by some energetic Year 2 children! Parents were able to have a look at some story maps close up and typical displays and activities you would find in the classroom. Everyone left with some ideas to take home and excited about hearing their children’s Talk for Writing stories.

The full presentation from this workshop can be found here.

Please note that a similar workshop will be held again next week for Year 3 to Year 6 parents on Thursday 28th September at 8:15am in the APP gym.

PTG Social

A Chat with Ms Elaine, Learning Support Teacher

As a regular feature in our Weekly Update, we would like to help you get to know our new members of the An Phu Primary Team.

This week, read about Ms Elaine, our LS (Learning Support) teacher by accessing this post. Ms Elaine has relocated to An Phu Primary from Budapest and we’re delighted to have her as part of our Learning Support team.

A Chat with Mr Mike, Year 5 Teacher

In addition, we would also like to introduce you to Mr Mike, Year 5 Teacher by accessing this post.

Mr Mike has relocated to An Phu Primary from Beijing and it’s been a pleasure to get to know him better over the last few weeks.

For details about of all of teaching staff, visit our school website and view their profiles in full.

Traffic Flow

We are pleased to report that the traffic during both drop off and pick has been busy but flowing due to a number of key factors:

  • Firstly, drivers are no longer parking along the stretch of road directly outside An Phu Primary which is allowing both bikes and cars to flow more easily.
  • Secondly, more and more parents are now using Gate C and Gate B to access our campus. I would like to thank all of you for your cooperation and support in this matter.

Unfortunately, some drivers are still U Turning close to school, thus stopping the traffic flow each time they do this.

Never U Turn along the stretch of road outside both AP1 and AP2 – tell your driver to drive away from school and if they have to U Turn, please do so on the wider, less congested roads. Try the route past AP1 along Nguyen Van Huong, as an alternative way to get home – it may take a few extra minutes driving but it will save the time you spend in traffic.

Please continue to speak with your drivers to help make a positive difference within our community.

Safeguarding at school – it’s everyone’s responsibility

If, during your visit to school, you have any reason to be concerned about the safety of a young person, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Person (Ms Dee Grimshaw) or the Head teacher (Mr Simon Higham)

Please note that CCTV cameras are in operation at all times across the campus.

Success Stories

We celebrate the successes of our current BIS HCMC students on a daily basis, whether it be academic, sporting, musical or from a whole range of differing activities.

Take a look at the section of our website called ‘Success Stories’ that focuses upon how our BIS, HCMC students, both past and present, have made a difference in their own area of expertise.

The latest success story is that of our past student Fatima Siraj who talks to us about the launch of her debut publication; Walk With Me.

Read about how our school and our teachers inspired her to become a writer and a success in her own right.
