I am a classically-trained musician from Canada. My main instrument is the flute and I have enjoyed performing with the local symphonies and concert bands. I have both my Bachelors of Music Performance and Music Education from the University of British Columbia. For the past five years, I have been teaching music in the inner-city public schools in Vancouver. This allowed me to see the important roles music and arts education play in children’s social and emotional well-being.
Other than music, I love painting and drawing in my sketchbooks as well as knitting up a warm pair of socks. On the weekends, I go to pottery classes and practice my wheel-throwing skills. I am a traveller at heart; I have been to various countries in South America, Asia and Europe. I would say that my most memorable adventure so far is our river trip down the Amazon tributaries, with me trying to stabilize our boat while our guide clears a path with his machete.
It is very exciting for me to be able to live in Chopin’s hometown and continue to share my love of music with my students.
