Magda Poniatowska

I am a certified librarian and trained teacher. I completed my MA in 2007 at the University of Warsaw and have translated and proof-read books for children. After time spent in the publishing trade, I became aware of the need for some guidance among the books that are being published.

For me, the journey of reading is most meaningful and pleasant when we are in the process of growing up. I do not like reading as much as I like to see how enthusiastic children are about the books that they find.

As a librarian, I am here to suggest, help and encourage.

As a student, I continuously expanded my knowledge and understanding of the Arts and I completed the Academy of Film History and a History of Art course at the National Museum of Warsaw.

I decided to stay in Poland for good and joined The British School, Warsaw.

I am married and have a son called Michał. I enjoy spending time with my family outdoors, cycling, strolling and having fun.

Highest Quality Learning

HQL, for me, is enhancing the student’s individual potential, keeping the learner interested and engaged. Learning is a lifelong process and requires courage to discover more about surroundings and the world.

As a school primary librarian I perform four main roles: teacher, instructional partner, information specialist, and program administrator.

In the teacher role, I develop and implement curricula relating to information literacy and inquiry. I read to children, assist them in selecting appropriate books, and provide help with schoolwork.

In the instructional partner role, I collaborate with classroom teachers to create independent learners by fostering students' research, information literacy, technology, communication, and critical thinking skills.

As an information specialist, I develop a resource base for the primary school by using the curriculum and student interests to identify and obtain library materials. I organise and maintain the primary library collection in order to promote independent reading and lifelong learning.

As a program administrator, I define and manage the school primary library programs by establishing primary library policies; overseeing the library budget; planning the physical and virtual library space and maintaining a welcoming, positive and innovative learning atmosphere.
