Head of Learning Support, Designated Safeguarding Lead

After obtaining my teaching degree, I found my first teaching post in a small catholic Primary School in my home town, where I taught Years 5 and 6. I remained there for eight years and held various positions of responsibility including Key Stage 2 Manager, SEN, Child Protection, Art, and Maths.

Special Education always proved to be a strong interest of mine, and in order to pursue this interest, I took up a post as Deputy Headteacher of a special school for children with learning difficulties aged between 7 and 16yrs. My experience there was rich and varied, and hugely rewarding as a significant part of my role was working alongside other agencies and the Local Authority to develop and improve the educational provision for some of the most vulnerable youngsters in our society.

Nine years later, I decided to fulfil a career ambition – to experience teaching in another country. In October, 2011, I gladly accepted what was, initially, a temporary post at The British School, and have enjoyed the opportunity to stay longer and discover more of the delights that Poland has to offer.

I love music, and play clarinet in the School Jazz Band when time allows. I am learning Polish and although I find the language very difficult, I am persevering with it. I am determined to hold a conversation in Polish one day. I also love reading and my favourite books are Terry Pratchett’s ‘Discworld’ series which I read again and again (pure escapism).

Highest Quality Learning

As a teacher, I have a strong commitment to helping students overcome any barriers to learning in order to be the best that they can be. The characteristics of Highest Quality Learning give me the platform to do just that. Helping students to discover their strengths, or find their motivation for learning and begin to take risks or to persevere when a task is difficult is a crucial step in their learning journey.

WHAT THE STUDENTS SAY

Miss Buckley explains things really well when I don’t understand something in Maths.

Miss Buckley cares about us, and I feel I can talk to her when I have a problem.

Miss Buckley is firm but fair – she rewards us when we do well, and tells us what we can do to improve in the future.
