Piotr Pukos

Mathematics Teacher, Year 12 Tutor

I was always interested in Mathematics, Physics and other disciplines of knowledge which teach logical and structured thinking. This is why I decided to apply for Mathematics and Computer Science, completing five year course of Master`s Degree in the scope of Applications of Mathematics at Maria Curie Skłodowska University in Lublin. Subsequently, me and my wife who is a fellow maths teacher, decided to settle down in UK and complete Secondary Mathematics PGCE at Southampton University. After gaining Qualified Teacher Status I started teaching in a Secondary School in Bournemouth. We fully enjoyed beautiful Bournemouth and the lovely area of Dorset.

As one of my hobbies is travelling, I decided to change the leaving place after a while applying for the post in The British School, Warsaw in 2010. This proved to be a good choice and since then I enjoy teaching Mathematics to KS3, IGCSE and IB students, running KS3 Maths Club, Chess Club and various Maths Competitions in the school.

Professionally, I am interested in developing various e-learning ideas and using technology (Graphical calculators, Interactive whiteboards, mathematics software, tablets) to enhance teaching of mathematics at various levels. Simultaneously, I work on my own project related to mathematics e-learning platform for schools.

In my free time, I enjoy playing chess which I started playing at the age of six. I used to participate in many international chess tournaments including Junior Championship of Poland and was a part of junior chess team. My second passion was martial arts, especially boxing, and in 2008, I was given an opportunity to participate in World Chess Boxing tournament in Berlin where I won my first chess-boxing fight. I believe that physical fitness and intellectual ability can be combined together and assist in the development of students, that is why I am a fan of this new, exiting sport. I am happy to become a coach in the School Chess Club called “Check Mates” and you can find me every Friday on the school football pitch or basketball court.

Highest Quality Learning

For me, Highest Quality Learning means helping students to be the best in all fields. In order to achieve high results, I challenge students with giving them hard mathematical problems which stretch their thinking skills and enable them to work to the best of their ability. This is why I decided to run KS3 Maths Club which prepares students for various competitions.

What the students say:

Mr. Pukos is a great teacher- he explains everything well.

During Mr. Pukos’ lessons, we can make jokes about maths which makes the lessons more fun.

Mr. Pukos likes giving homework, but he is a good teacher because the value of our work is big.

Quotation: “ Mathematical beast of the day”
