Karen O'Looney

Year 9 Tutor, Head of secondary PE

I am from Ireland and obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Physical Education, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Education/ Physical Education at the University of Limerick. I completed my teacher training in Ireland and also obtained my QTS from the UK.

I really enjoy working in the international circuit.  I’ve always had a keen interest in multiculturalism and therefore based my dissertation during my BA on “Multiculturalism and Indigenous students’ perceptions towards Education and School

After gaining my teaching qualification, I decided to say goodbye to Ireland and embark on an Eastern adventure.  I moved to the Middle East firstly to teach at The International School of Choueifat where I was appointed Head of the Physical Education Department for KS 1- KS2 for 2 years.  Recently, I taught at Muscat International School as a Physical Education Teacher for the past 3 years.  For the past 2 summers, I spent 5 weeks working with international students, managing daily activities, programming the summer's events, trips and activities at a residential school in Oxford in the UK.

My academic experiences, voluntary experiences, as well as my experience in the work force have fostered a tremendous personal drive and have helped me to become an independent, self -sufficient and hardworking individual, qualities I am looking forward to bringing to The British School, Warsaw.

I like travelling, sightseeing and meeting people from all walks of life.  I always try to spend my holidays visiting places around the world.  Other hobbies include horse riding, going to the gym and swimming.

I am really excited to be joining the staff at BSW after being in Oman. When the opportunity presented itself to work in Warsaw, it was one that I couldn’t refuse!
