International Day

Friday 24th October 2014

Dear Parents,

BIS Primary is holding our annual International Day on Friday 24th October. This day is a celebration of the diverse nationalities and cultures within our school and we are planning lots of exciting activities throughout the day to raise awareness of the different cultures within our school community and all around the world. This Year promises to be even more culturally diverse as the Secondary Dept. will also be joining in this wonderful celebration! (Mrs Eastwood will be contacting you on behalf of Secondary activities).

International Cafe at Peknikova

This year the children will have the chance to taste a range of International foods during the morning as part of a workshop activity.  The Parents Association will be contacting you shortly to suggest ways in which you can help in creating this tasting extravaganza.

The Parent’s Association have a list of representatives who have volunteered to help with this event so that parents can co-ordinate what they are going to send in. Students will have normal lunches provided by the catering company or home lunches on this day.

International Day schedule at Dolinskeho

Parents are invited to send in ‘finger’ food in the morning, (to be placed in the meeting room).  You are welcome to join us at this time and join in the festivities. Again members of the PA will sort the food out.

After much thought and consideration we have restructured the day for Dolinskeho, so that parents who have children in Peknikova can attend both events! The day will  take place as follows:

08:30 International Parade

The Nursery and Reception classes will congregate in the Forest School area of Dolinskeho (to the left as you enter the premises) for a simple International 'parade' and a chance to show their costumes.

09:00 International Buffet

The class teachers will take the children to wash their hands and the children will enjoy a shared snack together. This will probably last about 30 minutes.  (No need to send in a morning snack for your child on this day!)

After snack, the children will return to their classrooms and the Reception and Nursery teachers will visit each class with different international activities for the children to take part in. (We will take lots of photos!)

We would be delighted if you are able to remain at school after drop off and join us for the parade and the buffet. We will provide tea and coffee in the 'Stars' room (next to the entrance) while your children are registered and grouped for the parade.

Children will still be provided with main meals from the canteen.

Costumes

To make our day a truly International event, we would like all students and teachers (and parents) to come to school wearing national costume. We realise that it may not be possible for everyone to wear their own country’s national costume but hope that everyone will make the effort to wear a costume / outfit which represents a country, their own or another country.

Workshops Volunteers

We are looking for parents who may be willing to share something from their home country in an activity session with small groups of students. You would be supported by a teacher in leading a workshop, which could be sharing dance, or paper folding such as origami or a cultural idea which you would like to share with the students.  You would need to tell us what your activity is by Friday 10th October so we can add you into the timetable for events which will be held during the morning of the International day. Please email dking@bisb.sk directly.

Assembly and Parade

At 13:30 we will be holding a parade outside (weather permitting) of all of our students in their international costumes, led by a team of students from Secondary carrying flags to represent our multi-national community, which will be followed by an assembly which all Primary Parents are invited to attend.

We are really looking forward to making International Day a great success and with your help we hope it will be a fun and enjoyable day for all involved.

Kind regards,

Beverley Caddington
