No Energy Sleepover

Najlaa Al Houti from Year 9 describes the "No Energy Sleepover" at our school.
  • Girls painting school
  • eco school activities in the classroom
  • eco school outdoor classroom
  • eco school sleepover breakfast
  • eco committee voting

The No Energy Sleepover started at 15:00 on Friday 21st March and ended at 9:00 on Saturday 22nd March.

First we were split into 3 groups. The first group was painting the eco-mural on the wall in the primary playground; the second was gardening and planting new plants in the outdoor classroom and finally there was cooking. I was in the cooking group where we cooked dinner which was no- bake cheesecake, bread, carrot and cheese dip, garlic dip and vegetables salads. Food we ate was grown or produced locally, because the longer the food travels, the more pollution is released. Once we finished cooking and setting up the dinner table, we had about half an hour to rest and then we enjoyed our meals. We then had free time where we were allowed to go outside and play and do whatever we wanted but at about 8 o’clock, we had a presentation about bats where we had the opportunity to learn things and ask questions to bat experts. Once it was done, we played many team building games such as charades and a quiz where we were uncontrollably laughing. I must say, it was really funny! Before going to bed at 11 in the evening, we changed into our pajamas and we set up our sleeping bags and mats for us to be comfortable when we go to sleep.

I woke up at about 6 o’clock in the morning and until 7 o’clock I was in my bed talking to the person sleeping next to me. We then changed and packed our sleeping bags and went to eat breakfast which was tea and bread with a selection of jams. Once done, a several groups of 3 had to wash a specific thing like cups or bowls. Finally, we could do anything we wanted to (but not use phones or any electronics) until 9 o’clock, which was people left by public transport or people’s parents came to pick them up.

Overall, the whole thing was really fun and if the sleepover takes place next year I am certain that I will go with my friends to meet new people and to bond with my old friends!
