International Award – Silver Qualifying AJ

On the 17-19th of September, 2 groups of adventurous year 11 and 12’s headed out for a three day long adventurous journey to Mala Fatra National park.

  • International Award - Silver Qualifying
  • International Award - Silver Qualifying
  • International Award - Silver Qualifying

Their aim was to conquer 3 of the highest peaks in this mountain range as well as to prove they are fit and competent to be acknowledged and awarded with the Silver level of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.
The fourteen students with their supervisors and assessors started off at 5.50 and travelled by train to Vrutky, from where they made a long and strenuous climb to the first peak Suchy. All the equipment needed, all the food for the coming three days was planned by the students and carried in their backpacks which made the climb with more than 1000m altitude difference even more challenging. Day two was the most spectacular of the three days. With a beautiful weather and a stunning view to both Vratna valley and the Velka Fatra mountain range and the whole ridge with the peaks to climb ahead it was a fine day only slightly disturbed by the blisters and some discomfort.
However, I may be repetitive, but the biggest contribution to that overall relaxed, friendly and helpful atmosphere was the team spirit in each of the two teams, the mutual support, and the leadership that each member of the team has taken on at some point. So, with great pleasure, honor and pride of our students’ achievement I would like to congratulate all of them to tackling the personal, mental and physical challenges and to complete their Silver Qualifying Adventurous Journey.
