Juilliard Launch Concert

This week we have had a very special visitor in school, Mr Stephen Dunn from The Juilliard School in New York.  Stephen has been visiting our music department to have a look at how they are working with The Juilliard Creative Classroom to implement Juilliard skills and values into music lessons.   He had a great time working with both the students and staff and praised the standard of music making in the school.

On Tuesday evening we held a special launch concert for The Juilliard Curriculum at the Penarti club where the handbells played and both the boys' and girls' choirs sang.  We had 3 spectacular student soloists Filip Baranec, Hoda Jahanpour and Ryan Bradshaw and both Mrs Hatinova and Miss Howarth also performed.  Stephen brought along his trombone and treated the audience to some Bernstein showing his amazing performance skills.  He then performed with two students, Tom Keys and Jacob Wilcox, in a brass trio playing the traditional Irish piece Danny Boy. Stephen said the two boys were amazingly professional, having a masterclass on both Monday and Tuesday before the performance where they had clearly spent time practising at home between the rehearsals.

We have had a fantastic week with Stephen and will welcome him back to school in the new year when he can see even further improvements in our students' talents.  We are very lucky to have The Juilliard School working in collaboration with us and the opportunities it brings to all our children.  We hope you can join us at our next concert.
