Geography Trips

It’s been an exciting start to the school year in the Geography department, with a number of local trips taking place already!

On Monday 10th October, Year 11 Geography students visited the Old Town for the day to investigate the effects of tourism on the city. They interviewed tourists and locals alike, assessed the environmental quality, conducted land use surveys and completed pedestrian counts.

All of this information was then used to decide whether tourism in Bratislava was mostly positive or mostly negative. The results showed that whilst some parts of Bratislava where negatively affected by tourism, for example because of increased litter and overcrowding, the majority of the locals interviewed viewed tourism as a positive, because of the jobs it provided and the boost to the economy.

 

The Year 7s have also been out and about in the local area of Dubravka. They have been investigating what Dubravka is like, how different parts of Dubravka compare in terms of environmental attractiveness, housing types and traffic congestion and finally how Dubravka has changed over the years. All of this information will be used to make predictions for Dubravka’s future and each student will write-up their ideas as an official Geography report – an important and useful skill that they can apply to future topics and other subjects too!
