Bushcraft Cadets had great fun this week learning how to make fire with sparks and cotton-wool tinder, under the ever watchful eyes of Mr. King and Mr. Carroll. Not only did we learn how hard it actually is to make fire with a fire steel and tinder but we learned how to tell where East and West are by the position and rising/setting of the sun. We could then work out where North and South were. We then played a super orientation game which was great fun. The children really enjoyed the responsibility given to them, learning how to make fire and then making the connection with their own ancient ancestors, who would have gathered together just like them thousands of years ago to make their fire!
