This term, Year 3 have been keen inquirers, having fun finding out about light and shadow. "A shadow is formed when an object blocks the light.  This means that no light can go through it." Avani.  Whilst having lots of fun making shadows and measuring shadows we have also been learning to plan fair tests.  A fair test starts with questions and a prediction about what we think might happen.  We went to the playground and measured our shadows at various times during the day.  We discovered "Shadows got shorter until midday when they then got Longer.  They also changed direction" Sophia.  We used excel to plot our data and turn it into graphs.  The graphs helped us look at patterns so that we could write conclusions, it also helped us to spot any results that might be wrong!

In class, we have used the torches to investigate how shadows are sometimes pale and sometimes dark.  "Did you know that translucent objects make a pale shadow because it lets some of the light go through" Adrian.  "Opaque objects make a dark shadow because they block all of the light" Nacho  "Transparent objects do not make a shadow because all to the light can go through it." George.
