The ISMTF Senior Math Competition

The ISMTF Senior Math Competition for Y12-13 students took place in Vienna on 12-13 March with around 240 competitors representing 42 international schools throughout Europe and the Middle East, and even one school from India! We were represented by Jung Yeon Hong, Kyeong Sik Kim and Xiao Ye from Y12, and Lucy Mao, Matej Novak and Samuel Zalesak from Y13. Here is what our students have to say about the experience:

I enjoyed the competition quite a lot, since it was the culmination of months of practice. I also used to go to a school in Vienna, and I was looking forward meeting some of my friends. The individual competition was quite stressful, but the team competition afterwards was entertaining, as we could talk to each other.
Matej Novak, Y13

The first day of the ISMTF Senior Math Competition in Vienna consisted of morning individual rounds and afternoon team rounds. It was a new experience of solving many problems in such quick succession with a limited time as well. The team round was an especially fun aspect for me personally, because Math is not usually seen as a team work related subject. It was interesting to be able to solve problems in a group together. On the second day, there was the Sunday Chase, which was sort of a math scavenger hunt. This gave me the opportunity to meet students from other schools and some of them who even do IB.
Lucy Mao, Y13

It was a real pleasure working with these students and accompanying them on the trip. Congratulations to them all on a job well done and to Matej in particular who placed in the top 12% in the individual competition.

Head of Secondary Mathematics
