Squirmy Wiggly Worms

The Reception children have been discovering lots of squirmy wiggly worms during their outside learning time. We used the children's fascination and interest to lead us to a new project on 'Worms'.

We researched how to make a wormery and then dug up lots of worms to fill it.  The children observed the worms and we encouraged them to talk about what they could see, what they thought the worms were doing and what they wondered about the worms. "I see creepy, crawly worms" commented Brandon, "I think the worm is wiggling her tail", said Eunyu, "I think they drink water" observed Rishita, "I wonder why worms live in the ground" questionned Veronika.  The worms have been living in our classroom for a few days and they are still alive (thankfully!).  We have now read a great story called 'SuperWorm' about a super strong worm.  It has lead us to many more activities using our reading, writing, communication, collaboration and many more skills.  So if you see a Reception child ask them to tell you about worms - they're now the experts!
